All in favor.
Finalize plans for Installing the Mobi-Mat at South Cgpe Beach Including,Appropriate Ceremon with the
Director,DPW and the Director of the Recreation Department
Committee members discussed plans for the test run of the placement of the Mobi-Mat at South Cape Beach for the
optimum location and co4figuration so that there would be minimum disruption to the beach. Catherine Laurent
commented that the D.P.W. is down at the beach once a week, and they would be available to roll it out. The trial
run was moved from Thursday,May 17,to Wednesday,May 16,at 11:00 a.m. Bob W.will speak with Brian Kerhl
of The Enterprise noting that Thursday is the deadline for the newspaper.
Committee members also changed the ceremony date from Flag Day,June 14,to Wednesday,June 20,at 4:00 a.m.
It was noted that the beach does not officially open until June 23. Bob W.mentioned that Trish Parolski was to
check at the school to see if any students would be available to hold up the rope at the end of the signs. Bob will
prepare an article for The Enterprise acknowledging all the contributions, and he will prepare an announcement as
well,
Bob W. indicated that he had spoken with people on the A.D.A.Committee fzom the Town of Eastham. They have .
had a mobi-mat for a couple of years. He said that he thought about inviting people from other disability
committees for the event. Carol Sherman indicated that the Board of Selectmen will be there. Also, it was noted
that Conservation and Recreation staff should be invited. Kathleen Moore asked how Eastham handles the problem
of getting sand off the mobi-mat. Bob responded that the lifeguards could blow the sand off with a leaf blower.
Update Efforts to Provide Full and Equal Access on Buses Used for Da Trips Off-Cape
Bob W. indicated that the tour buses are not handicapped accessible. A person would have to climb the first couple
of steps. It is a Catch 22 situation—none of the tour bus companies on the Cape provide access. Buses are
available at different places that have lifts to accommodate at least two wheel chairs. When you get an accessible
tour bus,the cost goes up because it reduces the number of people who are able to go on the bus. Bob indicated that
C.O.R.D,is interested in this issue and other A.D.A.Committees are also interested in it and plan to establish a
working group of people from various commissions and C.O.R.D.to see if they could work out something. Jim
Long,C.O.A.Director,brought it to the C.O.A.group to generate ideas. Bob said that he has been in touch with
M.O.D. The A.D.A,regulation as it applies to the Department of Transportation states bus lines are required, given
sufficient notice,to come up with suitable transportation. Bob W. indicated that this will be on-going and he will
keep us up to date. Jim Long,Karen and Bob W.will meet at the Senior Center on May 24 at 11:00 a.m.
