-2-
Town Meeting Warrant
Bob W.extended thanks from the A.D.A.Committee to Kathleen Moore for her work for Town Meeting with
C.A.R.T. Services and with the large print warrants. Kathleen made reference to the microphones and the sound and
indicated that they would work on the sound from the floor microphones. With regard to the Audible Local Ledger,
Selectmen Carol Sherman and Wayne Taylor were recognized for recording the warrant. Carol indicated that it took
one hour and that she and Wayne took turns reading the warrant. It was noted that at least two people checked the
audios out from the library.
Update on South Cape Village and PpWonesset Market Place Compliance with Required Accessibility
Improvements
Bob W.noted that there has been a lot of work at the Popponesset Market Place, and it is a vast improvement over
what it was and that people no longer must go over sand or shells. Charlie M. commented that the shells are on the
side of the cement. It was also noted that most buildings are still impossible to get into for a person in a wheel chair.
With regard to South Cape Village,Carol mentioned that they have added a handicapped sign in front of Olympia
Sports and by Marshalls on the end parking lot. Charlie commented that most of it was laid out the way it was
intended. One problem is that people park in the fire lines by Dunkin Donuts and leave their car running. Carol
mentioned that she would bring the matter up to Melinda Gallant at the Chamber meeting. Charlie commented that
they should come in to talk to us and reach out to the Building and Board of Health Departments. Carol mentioned
that the Chamber will be moving into one of the store fronts.
Carol also mentioned that they are working on a business developers' package for new businesses on what they need
to know about the Town$pch as telephone numbers, websites, and who to contact, what the rules are, etc. This will
be put out through the Chamber and Town Hall by the E.D.LC.
Discuss Feasibility of Developing an Accessibility Brochure for Mashpee
Bob W.mentioned that the Town of Eastham A.D.A. Committee puts out a brochure which is distributed to various
areas in Town. This brochure lists businesses and facilities in Town that are handicapped accessible. Carol
mentioned that she gave their brochure to the Chamber. Bob asked the committee to give some thought into
developing a brochure and to think about what they would put in it. Charlie suggested tying in a handicapped
placard for businesses that meet accessibility requirements. There was a suggestion that a sub-committee be formed
to check to see what businesses are accessible. Bob mentioned that we could side saddle the work that TRIAD has
done. Carol suggested including Marylou Palumbo from the Chamber. TRIAD previously visited businesses in
Mashpee in order to check to make sure that handicapped parking was legal.
For future projects,Charlie suggested that the committee follow the Town's seven-year access plan that Tom Fudala
put together. Bob commented that the committee should see how they are coming with the boat ramps. With regard
to the archives,Bob W. wondered how handicapped people would get into the Archives Building. Charlie said that
he and the D.P.W.Director,Catherine Laurent, are looking at it. Charlie said that the ratio is fifty feet of ramp to
approximately a five foot elevation.
Announce Upcoming Community Monitor Training in Harwich
Charlie said that the Community Monitor Training is based on A.D.A.regulations and one would be trained to
monitor and inspect for things such as height of things and rules. A certification would be received if a site visit is
done. It is a two-day event and you would get a book. Carol-Sherman highly recommended going to that.
Request Reappointment of Members
Bob W.indicated that he would respond to an e-mail received from the Selectmen for those members who wished to
be reappointed. He asked if anyone was interested in stepping down that they let him know by the end of the month.
