TOWN OF MASH-PEE
AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2008
Members present: Bob Wooldridge, Beverly Wooldridge, William Dundon, Merton Sapers,
Charles Maintanis, Marilyn Farren, Patricia Lugo, Terrie Cook, Selectmen Liaison.
Absent: Trish Parolski
Chairman Bob Wooldridge called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m.
Review/approve Minutes of 7110108 meeting: A motion was made, seconded, and approved to
accept the Minutes from the 7/10/08 meeting with two additions.
Planning & Construction Committee Activities: Trish Parolski was not here to give a report.
The process for bidding on the Library is proceeding, and there is nothing that concerns us at this
time.
Parking Patrols: Mert Sapers reported that a few tickets were issued, and there are eight teams
giving out tickets.
Traffic and Parking at South Cape Village: An application was made to make Joy Street a
regular street open to traffic. It has reached the first stage with the Design Review Committee.
Our Committee thought this would be a disaster. A suggestion was made that it be one-way
traffic and no left turn if it gets further along. Also, diagonal parking with handicap spaces was
suggested. There is more pedestrian traffic with the temporary library on Joy Street. Also
mentioned is that there is more parking near the Jewelry Store and Olympia.
Mashpee Night at the Pops: Everything went well with parking. Jim Vaccaro organized it.
There were parking spaces for people even though they were not marked off. The concert
committee can help out next year. Jim Vaccaro is on both committees, Mashpee Commons, and
Mashpee Night at the Pops.
Barrier Free Playground: The Eagle Scouts and Mashpee High School seniors may be
interested in the project. Patricia Lugo thought that Quashnet and Coomb Schools are barrier
free. Trish was looking into special safety rubber mats to cover the playground surfaces at
Coombs and Quashnet schools. A good resource is to google"barrier free" for some good ideas.
Marilyn Farren asked about plans for barrier free accesss. The Eagle Scouts have to present a
plan. DPW has agreed to be involved with our Committee. Conservation Commission will also
need to be involved. Fahnouth is a good resource also.
Beach Access/DPW and Boy Scouts: Terrie has been in touch with the leader of the Eagle
projects who has cancer. Patricia Lugo will try to contact the Senior Advisor at the High School.
Cape Cod Tech is a good resource, also. Frank Lord, Chairman of the Schoolhouse Committee
sent a letter to Bob Wooldridge stating he will arrange for ramps and railing at the historic school
house building.
