Charlie and DPW have talked about this, and he noted that under Ch. 34 historic buildings, if the
use is under 50 days, the building is exempt from requirements. Doorways do not need to be
made accessible. They plan to put stone foundation around the building, and maybe crushed
granite for the surface. The grade is pretty steep from parking lot to the schoolhouse. Perhaps a
portable, moveable ramp could be constructed to accommodate student groups.
Ballots and Town Meeting Warrants for the Blind: Sherry Bergeron, Executive Director of
the Audible Local Ledger, could provide tapes, and Wayne Taylor and Terrie Cook volunteered
to read the warrants for the taping. It is a short warrant this time, and we can evaluate how it
works. They will try to schedule this. Terrie will e-mail members on the progress. Copies can
be made available at the library, senior center, town clerk's office. They can be checked out to
the recipient to take home. Absentee ballots can go home along with the tape. The Mashpee
Enterprise can publicize it. The voting machine for the blind is available and needs to be
advertised. There are 93 blind persons registered with the Commission on the Blind.
Assistive Technology Fair: CORD is coordinating an Assistive Technology Fair at the Wellfleet
Council on Aging on September 23`d at 3:00 p.m.
Community Access Monitor Training: You can register for a two-day training session on
Increasing Accessibility in Your Communities through CORD by September 170' offered in
Harwich on September 24-25.
Bob Wooldridge distributed several leaflets to help those with disabilities and elders, i.c. The
Home Modification Loan Program, the MassMATCH Assistive Technology Listserv, and
registration for the two-day training session in Harwich. Patricia Lugo suggested places to make
the literature available to the public.
The next meeting of the committee will be Thursday, October 9, at 2:00 p.m.
As there was no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
'flvwelsthorpe,
O&A4,
Reg Secretary
