-2-
Trish says that there will be a sizeable place for meetings in the new library and term
papers will be able to be done on the internet, etc. They are second on the list. They will
not hear from the State until after July 1St. Regardless of what happens if the money
comes from the budget, there is a third fall back. The friends of the library hope to raise
$1 million dollars that will be used to furnish the building(similar to what was done by
the friends of the Council on Aging).
There was discussion regarding a window issue at the Quashnet School, which will come
under Capital Improvement. It will be on the May Town Meeting warrant for a vote.
With regard to access plans for Town Meeting, Trish will call Ira Brown and Brad Tripp
to remind them to request student assistance in the parking area.
It was noted that Selectman Cook is planning to look into COMCAST for closed
captioning.
Health Care Access Project—Co-Chairman Dundon asked if any attended the April 11
meeting regarding emergency preparedness. No one present was able to attend.
Meetin with Town Clerk
Deborah Dami, the Town Clerk, met with the committee to discuss parking fines and to
see what assistance she could help with. Mert advised that the Parking Monitors were out
checking today, and that they would be issuing tickets if there were any violations. Deb
said that she would be lenient with people who just got out of the hospital. She, as
Parking Clerk, could void the ticket. She suggested taking pictures. Charlie mentioned
that he checked with A.A.B. (Mass. Architectural Access Board)and that signs need a
universal handicapped symbol. Deb commented that if the space does not have the
correct signage, she is not interested in hearing that story because everyone is required to
be compliant. Charlie disagreed saying that Mashpee has bi-laws and cars maybe
removed at the owner's expense. Charlie noted that the A.A.B. symbol does not need a
symbol on the pavement.
With reference to the wheel-chair loading zone,Deb asked if people could be given a
ticket? It was noted that usually there is a sign that says "handicapped parking—van
accessible only". Mert mentioned that there are no names assigned on the tickets and that
Lt. Read has assigned numbers. Deb suggested that the Parking Monitors write a report
that will allow her to have more information. She advised that they listen to the stories
and use a common sense approach. Charlie offered the Building Department's
assistance if there are appeals. Mert commented that there needs to be a vertical
handicapped parking sign„ and that they are not supposed to give tickets if the signage is
just on the ground.
