r Minutes of the Meeting of the Mashpee Americans with Disabilities Act Committee,August 9, 2007 The Mashpee Americans with Disabilities Act Committee met Thursday,August 9, 2007 at Mashpee Town Hall Meeting Room#2. Members in attendance: William Dundon(co-chair) Marilyn Farren Charles Maintains Merton Sapers Robert Wooldridge The minutes of the July 12,2007 meeting were reviewed and approved pending the addition of Charlie Maintains to the list of attendees. Marilyn informed the committee of the recent death of Terrie's brother, Unnamed members speculated that Trish's absence probably reflected her choice to take advantage of the beautiful weather to pick peaches while wearing her pretty bonnet and carrying a cute little basket. Deborah Dami,Mashpee Town Clerk,brought in the official sign-in book for all attendees reappointed for the new fiscal year to sign. The committee was reorganized for FY 2008. After a proposal to draw straws was rejected,Bob was elected chairman.A new secretary was not chosen. Marilyn will fmd someone from Town Hall to serve as committee secretary. She hopes to find someone in time for the September 13, 2007 meeting. The School Department position on the committee remains vacant. The superintendent intends to nominate the new business manager,when chosen,to fill the vacancy. To the best of our knowledge,the individual has not yet been hired. Charlie mentioned the schools are due for inspection prior to opening in September. At that time, he will check the status of the handicapped parking which was to be brought into compliance with regulations this summer. At this time,we have no information of the status of the capital improvement projects approved for the schools that included automatic doors for the main entrance to Quashnet School. Charlie reported the message to owners&managers of commercial property regarding handicapped parking that was a key component of the pre-licensing inspections last fall seems to have been taken to heart by most. Most businesses have willingly taken the necessary steps to upgrade parking. He had conversations with the management of South Cape Village businesses to explain the handicapped parking requirements and believes they will willingly cooperate. On the down side,the Building Department he is experiencing less cooperation at some of the newer development projects. Charlie also reported the Building Department will once again be starting the annual pre-licensing inspections in September in order to provide owners/managers maximum time to take necessary corrective action.
