Liaison to Police Department <br /> Gail Wilson had been in contact with Tara Carmine, the Domestic Violence Coordinator,to attend a <br /> future meeting. Ms. Farren was in contact with Carrie Lopes, Co-Chair of the Provincetown NPFH <br /> Committee and Civil Rights Officer for the Police Department, in order to learn more about police <br /> involvement with other NPFH Committees. Ms. Lopes emphasized the importance of including a <br /> Police Department liaison, and described a number of their activities such as sponsoring an <br /> Immigrant Workers Celebration, supporting hate crimes training for seasonal police officers, <br /> sponsoring a community forum in response to a hate crime, as well as presenting hate crime <br /> information to local business and tourist groups. Maryanne Wray added that Falmouth also has an <br /> actively involved Police Department Liaison. Ms. Wilson noted that Ms. Carmine would not be <br /> available to attend meetings as her position is part time. It was suggested that Ms. Farren invite the <br /> Mashpee Police Chief to attend a future meeting to further discuss the possibility of adding a Police <br /> Liaison to the Committee. Ms. Wilson will follow up with Ms. Carmine. <br /> No Name Calling Day <br /> Ms. Farren announced that No Name Calling Day has been incorporated with the new anti-bullying <br /> bill. Ms. Wilson added that the legislation was also discussed at the Violence Prevention Team and <br /> ways in which issues could be addressed at the school, possibly through discussion in small groups <br /> and encouraging peers to help one another. Ms. Vaughn added that anti-bullying programs need to <br /> start very youn and Ms. Wilson agreed. Ms. Wilson discussed an anti-bullying workbook <br /> available for 3' , 4th and 51h graders and planned to bring a copy of the book to the next meeting. <br /> Committee members also discussed cyber bullying and the need for parent involvement. Ms. <br /> Wilson described an activity using a large paper doll where kids crumpled pieces of the doll as they <br /> shared unkind comments about the doll and then apologized for their words and fixed the doll, <br /> Spring Coalition Meeting <br /> The next Spring Coalition meeting will take place at Quincy City Hall on May 12 at 7:30. The <br /> discussion will revolve around the film Race-Power Of Illusion and will be sponsored by Hingham <br /> and Marshfield. Committee members expressed interest in possibly co-sponsoring all event in the <br /> fall.
