Ms. Wray recommended continued collaboration with Ms. Purdy and the Human Rights Club regarding <br />the annual Multi-Cultural Event, as well as the possibility of pursuing the development of a cookbook. <br />There was also discussion about encouraging a student to pursue a senior project in conjunction with the <br />Affirmative Action Committee. Ms. Vaughn stated that students had different interests, capabilities and <br />desires. Teachers advise the students, for <br />their project. Ms. Vaughn reported that many students pursue charity projects, such as the donated prom <br />baskets project. Ms. Farren encouraged Committee members to consider other projects for further <br />discussion at a future meeting. <br />DISCUSSION ITEMS <br />Mashpee Cares <br />There was some discussion about Mashpee Cares and it was suggested that perhaps Gail Wilson could <br />update the Affirmative Action Committee about . Ms. Vaughn stated that <br />Mashpee Cares was initiated by the school system to address young adult issues. Ms. Vaughn believed <br />that the next meeting would be Thursday, 6-7:30, at the Quashnet School. <br />Open Meeting Law Requirements <br />There was discussion regarding the specific agenda requirements of the Open Meeting Law and the need <br />to specifically list items. Ms. <br />website. <br />Additional Topics <br />Recruitment- Ms. Wray inquired about Jackie Fields and Ms. Vaughn noted that Ms. Fields now sat on <br />the Board of Trustees at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Ms. Wray inquired whether the new Human <br />Rights contact could be approached to attend future meetings. Ms. Farren indicated that she would follow <br />up with the Human Rights contact. There was also reference to the addition of a member of the Mashpee <br />Police Department. Ms. Vaughn recommended recruiting new members at the Town Picnic in July. <br />Members were in agreement that it would be a good opportunity to inform residents about the work of the <br />Committee. Ms. Farren will inquire about the students who performed at the Multicultural Event. <br />Roche Brothers-Ms. Brown reported that she followed up with the manager at Roche Brothers about <br />issues that have been reported. Ms. Brown spoke with Chef John who stated that the store was under new <br />management and that things had changed. Ms. Brown indicated that the store had been boycotted for <br />some time. Ms. Vaughn noted that she sees lots of different people at Roche Brothers. <br />Next Meeting <br />Committee members decided to cancel the April meeting. The next meeting of the Affirmative Action <br />Committee will be May 24 at 5:00 p.m. <br />Meeting Adjournment <br />Ms. Wray made a motion to close the meeting. Ms. Brown seconded the motion.
