<br />Mashpee Affirmative Action Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />October 25, 2011 at 5:00 pm <br />Meeting Room 2, Mashpee Town Hall <br /> <br />Present: Co-Chair Maryanne Wray, Co-Chair Kay Brown, Deborah Vaughn, Marilyn Farren <br />Also Present: Selectman Carol Sherman <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting opened at 5:03 p.m. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES-September 27, 2011 <br /> <br />A motion was made by Ms. Wray to accept the minutes. Ms. Farren seconded the motion. <br /> <br />GENERAL UPDATES <br />Mashpee Public Library Activity <br />Ms. Farren reported that Jackson Gelman was not recommended by Janet Burke but that <br />entertainer Brett Outchcunis had been highly recommended. Mr. Outchcunis engages children <br />K-8 through step dancing, music and performance in a diversity based program <br />Spin. The program will address respect for others and individual differences. Ms. Farren <br />announced that Mr. Outchcunis would perform at the library from 11-12 on Saturday, November <br />28, which was the only date available. A request has been submitted to the Cultural Council for <br />a grant to fund the $750 cost. Library Director Kathy Mahoney has indicated that the library <br />would pay for the event until the grant was available to reimburse the cost. Help would be <br />needed to distribute flyers to the schools and acquire coverage from the newspaper. Ms. Farren <br />noted that Mr. Outchcunis recently performed in Sandwich at the Wing School. <br /> <br />Ms. Vaughn suggested ive Spin on <br />Your Holiday Season, possibly in the shape of a top. Ms. Wray inquired whether the <br />performance could be videotaped. <br />Museum. An activity request has been submitted to the ADL. <br /> <br />Ms. Farren indicated that she would contact Mr. Outchcunis again about receiving a copy of his <br />brochure. Selectman Sherman suggested featuring a canned goods drive as part of the library <br />program. Ms. Wray offered to develop information in PowerPoint. Ms. Farren will forward Mr. <br />details. Ms. Vaughn recommended utilizing the <br />divider at the event, which Ms. Farren thought had been stored in the attic. There was also <br /> There was discussion about purchasing <br />and distributing such items as tops or yo- <br /> <br />Mashpee High School-Human Rights Club Project, Diversity Day <br />Ms. Farren reported that she had been in contact with Ms. Purdy, who indicated that a student <br />was interested in developing a program about diversity on behalf of the Human Rights Club. <br />Yumna, a student from Pakistan, also expressed interest in working collaboratively with the <br />Affirmative Action Committee. Ms. Vaughn clarified that the event would be a one day event <br /> <br />
