The Chair questioned the <br /> necessity of the final statement in the last paragraph and whether a consultant would need to hired. <br /> Committee Opening <br /> It was noted that an advertisement appeared in the Enterprise announcing the Committee's vacancy. <br /> Allan Isbitz has submitted his resume and expressed interest in becoming a member of the <br /> Affordable Housing Committee. The Chair indicated that Mr. Isbitz had tremendous experience <br /> working in affordable housing and showed a genuine interest in becoming involved with the <br /> Committee. Mr. Isbitz joined the meeting and introduced himself to the members of the <br /> Committee. Mr. Isbitz stated that he had recently left his employer of 27 years and had started his <br /> own business and that he had a home located in Mashpee. Mr. Isbitz expressed his interest in <br /> becoming involved with the Committee and noted that he had worked in affordable housing for his <br /> entire professional life. Chairman Abbott recommended that Mr. Isbitz submit a letter of interest to <br /> the Board of Selectmen, who would be the appointing authority. Members of the Committee <br /> introduced themselves to Mr. Isbitz. Chairman Abbott summarized the activities of the Committee. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Mashpee Affordable Housing Plan <br /> Chairman Abbott reported that he had been in contact with the Planning Department and emailed <br /> copies of the June 30, 2011 Affordable Housing Plan Draft to Committee members. The draft may <br /> not include 2010 census data, but the Chair requested that Committee members review the <br /> document and recommend changes. The document will be reviewed at the next meeting in <br /> February. <br /> Discussion <br /> Chairman Abbott shared information from the Center for Housing Policy website in regard to rental <br /> affordability in Barnstable. Chairman Abbott stated that Barnstable had been listed as#24 on the <br /> list of least affordable areas to live. The Chair cited specific figures and examples as follows: <br /> 2011 2BR Rental on Cape $1,208 per month (#20 on the list) <br /> Median Income Needed to Purchase a Home $50,776 Nationwide <br /> Median Income Needed to Purchase a Home $83,665 Barnstable <br /> Avg. Salary for.Firefighter $42, 603 <br /> Median Income Needed to Afford IBR Rental $38,004 Nationwide <br /> Median Income Needed to Afford 2BR Rental $41,473 Nationwide <br /> Median Income Needed to Afford IBR Rental $36,720 Barnstable <br /> Median Income Needed to Afford 2BR Rental $48,320 Barnstable <br /> It was summarized that the figures represented a real need for affordable housing. <br /> NEXT MEETING <br /> There was discussion regarding the frequency of meeting as a result of a memo received from <br /> Human Resources. It was determined that the Committee would continue to meet on the first <br /> Tuesday of the month at 6:30. It was determined that July and August would be scheduled only if <br /> 2 <br />
