committee members review the document and recommend any changes. The Chair questioned the necessity of the final statement in the last paragraph and whether a consultant would need to hired. Committee Opening It was noted that an advertisement appeared in the Enterprise announcing the Committee's vacancy. Allan Isbitz has submitted his resume and expressed interest in becoming a member of the Affordable Housing Committee. The Chair indicated that Mr. Isbitz had tremendous experience working in affordable housing and showed a genuine interest in becoming involved with the Committee. Mr. Isbitz joined the meeting and introduced himself to the members of the Committee. Mr. Isbitz stated that he had recently left his employer of 27 years and had started his own business and that he had a home located in Mashpee. Mr. Isbitz expressed his interest in becoming involved with the Committee and noted that he had worked in affordable housing for his entire professional life. Chairman Abbott recommended that Mr. Isbitz submit a letter of interest to the Board of Selectmen, who would be the appointing authority. Members of the Committee introduced themselves to Mr. Isbitz. Chairman Abbott summarized the activities of the Committee. NEW BUSINESS Mashpee Affordable Housing Plan Chairman Abbott reported that he had been in contact with the Planning Department and emailed copies of the June 30, 2011 Affordable Housing Plan Draft to Committee members. The draft may not include 2010 census data, but the Chair requested that Committee members review the document and recommend changes. The document will be reviewed at the next meeting in February. Discussion Chairman Abbott shared information from the Center for Housing Policy website in regard to rental affordability in Barnstable. Chairman Abbott stated that Barnstable had been listed as#24 on the list of least affordable areas to live. The Chair cited specific figures and examples as follows: 2011 2BR Rental on Cape $1,208 per month (#20 on the list) Median Income Needed to Purchase a Home $50,776 Nationwide Median Income Needed to Purchase a Home $83,665 Barnstable Avg. Salary for.Firefighter $42, 603 Median Income Needed to Afford IBR Rental $38,004 Nationwide Median Income Needed to Afford 2BR Rental $41,473 Nationwide Median Income Needed to Afford IBR Rental $36,720 Barnstable Median Income Needed to Afford 2BR Rental $48,320 Barnstable It was summarized that the figures represented a real need for affordable housing. NEXT MEETING There was discussion regarding the frequency of meeting as a result of a memo received from Human Resources.
