Regarding pursuit of additional affordable housing in Mashpee, Mr. Isbitz inquired about
whether the production plan should include details about a public/private partnership to
encourage development of 40B housing to meet the Town's goal. Mr. Isbitz noted that all units
of a privately developed rental project, with 25% affordable units, would count toward the
affordable rate. It was noted that there was limited land available for development. Selectman
Richardson recommended communication with the EDIC regarding the sale of available land.
There was discussion about Mashpee Commons' development of 25%of affordable units. There
was also discussion about the status of 950 Falmouth Road and inquiry about affordable housing
present on Mashpee land at Otis Air Force Base. Selectman Richardson will inquire further to
acquire names for Mr. Isbitz to follow up.
Site Status
It was reported that the State was considering the request. Ms. Egloff noted that she had seen an
RTA bus available on Old Barnstable Road.
Russell Road/Habitat for Humanity
It was reported that 7 people had expressed interest in the drawing for the Habitat for Humanity
home at Russell Road. Three families had been identified as needing a 3-bedroom home. A
family has been selected for the home and it was noted that two additional homes would be
constructed on Park Place in 2013.
Housing Institute
W. Isbitz expressed interest in attending the program. It was noted that cottage housing would
be discussed as part of the program. Cottage housing has been identified as a possible option for
Mashpee. There was discussion about the benefits of increasing affordable rental units with a
larger development that would blend with the surrounding area.
NEW BUSINESS
Fred. Detschel
Chairman Abbott reported that he was unsure whether Mr. Detschel had submitted a letter of
resignation to the Board of Selectmen. The open position would not be advertised until the letter
was received by the Board of Selectmen.
COMMUNICATIONS
Habitat Criminal Records
Habitat for Humanity has thanked the Committee for their support of Habitat's request. Habitat
stated that CORI checks occurred only for rentals and not home ownership. Habitat stated that
there was no known circumstance of a current homeowner being disqualified by a CORI
screening. Concern was expressed regarding a possible arbitrary interpretation of the CORI.
Concern was also expressed about press coverage identifying a shooting at a Habitat for
Humanity home and the after effects of the article.
HOUSING AUTHORI'T'Y CLARIFICATION
Ms. Botsford sent communication that the Housing Authority would be interested in developing
an affordable housing project should the Committee have control of a parcel of land. The land
would need to be transferred to the Housing Authority. An article was shared regarding a cost
2
