Mike stated it was obvious that there are many areas
where individuals believed we should focus.
Gail Wilson suggested discussed the work of the Barnstable County Regional Substance Abuse Coalition
as they are a larger group with the potential of funding and could assist in this committee's local efforts.
A focus group was meeting on April 27, 2015 and the Committee members were invited to participate.
Members of the Wampanoag Tribe were in attendance and offered to collaborate with the Mashpee
Cares Committee as we move forward
Several comments were suggested, looking at drugs as "ugly" as in the smoking campaign; looking at
various age groups for different methods of education and prevention; focus on enforcement; focus on
family. Mike stated the issue in front of us is very large and the overall consensus of the group is that
we need to narrow the focus as much as possible and the use of opiates seemed to be one area most
agree was the necessary initial focus.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be on Tuesday,April 28, 2015 at 5:00 pm at Mashpee Town Hall.
ADJOURNMENT
As there was no further business, Mike Richardson made a motion that the meeting be adjourned,Joyce
Mason seconded the motion.
