■
Board of Assessors Meeting Page
LD BUSINESS.
New Filing sten for Assessing Department
I
David Bailey informed the status of this matter. He
explained that it is difficult obtaining information on an
electronic filing system. An reputable office supply company has
suggested that Assessing not go the electronic route; it is in
process of sending information on additional recommendations .
The company is concerned about the old wiring in Assessing ' s
flooring as well as the ceiling height. It deals mainly with
medical systems - some quite high and six foot widths - and quite
costly.
David Bailey further informed that a filing system unit of
particular interest is box shaped, perhaps ' b ' , and rotates
inside similar to a lazy susan; the unit would provide perhaps
four times the , present filing space. He has requested that the
company ' s sales representative for office systems recommend the
best system for Assessing ' s office space , regardless of cost -
then, a proposal for a system that would be most practical , with
cost as an issue although not the prune issue.
'Mr. Bailey expressed opinion there may be enough money in
the expense budget to install a new counter with space for a
filing system beneath -- without requesting additional funds at
Town Meeting - funds which may be refused because the entire Town
facilities may be redone and prior improvements may be wasted.
He felt that' Assessing may have enough money this yearleft from
In 'down Travel , and he felt that an economical solution to the
much needed filing space problem could be resolved this year .
Chairman Greig referred to his proposed filing system and
floor plans ; he initiated lengthy discussion and sine discussions
relative to the size, present layout, and proposed layouts of the
Assessing office. David Bailey pointed out that the office
supply company deals mostly with medical filing 'systems which are
extremely costly. Robert D Lory asked if funds could be obtained
through the Board of Selectmen. Mr. Bailey made comment that if
Assessing personnel are patient, perhaps the selectmen will fund
all of Assessing ' s physical office needs - but this may be too
far in the future!
Chairman Greig recommended that small , needed improvements
now be accomplished in the Assessing Department. He pointed out
that next year begins the financial burden of the new high
school ; funds for needed improvements may be difficult to obtain.
David Bailey and Board Members expressed agreement.
