Board of Assessors Executive Session Pace 2 <br /> HEARING <br /> Appeal for Real Estate Tax Exemption Cinder Clause 1 <br /> Map 1 , Marcel 33 <br /> Randall S rin , owner <br /> (continued) <br /> Leslie Greig questioned Mr . Spring regarding his medical <br /> prognosis . Mr. Spring stated that he has an appointment with the <br /> neuro surgeon on September 9th regarding spine surgery because of <br /> severe disc deterioration. He explained that this type of <br /> surgery -.s a last resort, and the decision would be made after <br /> extensive research. -He did have nuclear radiation testing for <br /> cancer of the bones - the results were negative. Discussion <br /> followed. <br /> Leslie Greig questioned if Mr. Spring is financially able to <br /> meet his monthly expenditures . Mr. Spring explained that he has <br /> very little income; however, his girlfriend lives with hire, but <br /> she has a. meager income. He is working' with officials to push <br /> for a 100% disability - he will have to appear before a medical <br /> review board in Washington, D.C. Also, he has 18 years of <br /> military tenure toward a 20 year retirement benefit . Lengthy <br /> discussion followed concerning Mr . Spring ' s duties in Desert <br /> Storm, as well as his work history upon his return from Saudi <br /> Arabia . Mr. Spring stated that -his duties primarily included the <br /> complete operation of tractor trailers . <br /> David Bailey asked Mr. Spring if he will enroll in a job <br /> training program. Mr . Spring stated that he is scheduled to go <br /> to Providence, Rhode Island on S etember '2 th relative to various <br /> job training programs . He expressed questionable feelings <br /> concerning jobs that do not require standing for long periods of <br /> time. He also expressed- concerns of various neuro surgeons about <br /> the type of spinal surgery he appears to need - the risk of <br /> becoming paralyzed during 'surgery is a real fear to all . <br /> Discussion followed. David Bailey and Board Members agreed that <br /> his back would have to be stabilized in order to perform many <br /> duties of various jobs. <br /> Leslie Greig again questioned Mr. spring s monthly <br /> expenditures . He asked how the $1 ,800 listed on his application <br /> is being paid. Mr. Spring stated that he has eliminated about <br /> of these monthly expenditures . He and his girlfriend have <br /> sola her oar, eliminating insurance and gas , maintenance and <br /> excise tax; food and electricity have been reduced. <br />
