Board of Assessors Meeting Page
Assessin De artment ' s Corn titer System continued
explained that Patriot stopped making major enhancments to Its
previous system three years ago because the Company was writing
j Its new system for tlindows 95 which was supposed -to be out 2h
years ago. However, Patriot got bogged down with Microsoft, the
company that gave computer people what they would basically need
to write programs for Windows 95 • . . but Micro o t never came
out with the software. That version has just been released; it
has been installed in New Bedford and a few other towns ; it is
quite expensive at present. The cost for Mashpiee would be about
$20 , 000 to buy the software; then, all of the hardware would have
to be enhanced also. The total cost would be about $35 ,000 to
$40 , 000 to switch over to Patriot ' s new system.
j Nice Chairman Greigexpressed opini
on that the cost to
switch to Patriot ' s new system written for Windows 95 may be
j well worth the expense . . . doing a revaluation would be so
much easier . David Bal ley expressed agreement- he stated that he
feels the cost of this system will be much cheaper six months
from now. Discussion followed. Mr . Bailey ' s hope was that
Assessing could stitch to a new system this year; it still may
happen when the departments move is rade to the new building.
Leslie Greig made comment that Patriot ' s new system would be
j marvelous in the Assessing Department. David Bailey expressed
j
agreement; he made comment that it is "State of the Art" ; it is
probably the most advanced assessment system in the country. He
plans to visit New Bedford ' s Assessing Department soon ' to see how
well the new system is working there.
David Bailey informed Board Members that he will tape
theme on a tour of the Internet some morning soon, if they wish.
Be would like to show them how the Assessing Office of a county
in Florida, the one he previously spoke about, is working with
Its information on the Internet,
ADJOURNMENT:
Where being. no further business before The Board for
discussion, Leslie Cried rade motion The Board adjourn the
meeting - Kenneth Porter made second the motion;; motion passed-
unanimous
ayssedunanimous decision . The regular board meeting was adjourned at
7 : 40 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Eleanor A. Bachand
Board secretary
