Board of Assessors Meeting Page
David Bailey ' s comin Assessing Department Summarl
(continued)
Vice Chairman Greig informed that he read in the
Statutes the Assessors can appoint Assistant Assessors . . we
•oul.d actually appoint people to function along with David Bailey
and the Data Collector. Kenneth porter initiated lengthy
discussion concerning hiring retired people. He expressed
opinion that they are capable of doing many jobs and are quite
willing to work. Mr. Bailey stated that setting standards is
important in this regard. He informed Hoard Members that the
issue of hiring reties ed people was . discussed previously and
should be discussed again at length in the near future in order
to resolve this important matter.
David Bailey informed The Hoard that It should be aware
his Summary will be coming out next geek, at that time, he will
distribute copies to Hoard Members . He expressed strong opinion
that he foresees the only way the Assessing Department will be
able to continue to operate - in an economical fashion is to reduce
the number of people that are in and out of the of fice . . % the
public people on a regular basis . The technology is out there to
make the department more efficient. If we wait until people are
clamoring for that technology, we will have waited too long .' ' He
wants Assessing to be ready with it when the people are ready t
use it.
OLD/NEW BUSINESS
Assessing De artment ' s Computer System
Chairman DeLory asked if Assessing ' s computer system is
currently hooked up with the Town ' s new computer system. Mr.
Galley informed that it is not. He explained that he has
purposely avoided having Assessing # s system involved until all
the kinks are out of the new system. He informed that Assessing
will eventually connect, but he feels that Assessing cannot
afford to experiment with it until the new system is down pat,
He explained that Assessing ' s software is proven and tested .
this Patriot system as is the MMC system nothing will
o wrong that cannot be easily fixed . . . it is ready to be
hooked up with the Town ' s it needs only to be interfaced .
David Bailey informed that he has made Patriot Properties
aware of what is going on; he has spoken to MMC about Its
assessment system as well as to Patriot about Its new assessment
system which is quite a bit nicer than what Assessing now has .
Vice Chairman Greig initiated lengthy discussion. Mr. Bailey
