y
Board. of Assessors Meeting Page
David Bailey ' s Upcoming AssessingDepartment Summary
w ■I llr 1 ! ■ L ■ I P
(continued)
developments that developers had to spend hundreds of thousands
of dollars preparing their own topo maps . Assessing would have
had all this information they could have purchased it from
us .
David Bailey further informed Board Members that he
feels placing information on the Internet is a big priority; he
has already initiated this action he has a data base to a
writer to create a data base that will be searchable on the
Worldwide Web. He expressed 6pinion that the future of public
service is going to be on the Internet. Be predicts that in five
or sixyears there will be a computer in every household; it wall
be ' hooked up to a telephone; people will be doing all their
business over their computers. People who are not ready for this
will be left in the dust! .' Short side discussions followed.
Mr. Bailey explained that placing information on the
Internet makes important data available to people who do not lure
in Mashpee year round and who would otherwise not have ready
access to it . He has spent a great deal of time researching this
matter; he found a few tons that have placed thein information
on the Internet . M . one in Florida it is good, clean,
neat. Mr. Bailey would like to start placing the Commitment Book
on the Internet in a searchable manner so that people can look up
information by street, by reap and block, or by name .
David Bailey further informed the Board that what he
would eventually like to do is give people the capability of
printing out a property record card from the computerized
information . This would eliminate appraisers corning to the
Assessing Department. Mr. Bailey feels that as Mashpee grows,
this will be the way Assessing will grow dramatically. We have
been able to sage positions by keeping up with technology so far;
he feels that by continuing to keep abreast, the next wave of it
will keep professionals out of this office. We spend a
tremendous amount of time with real estate appraisers . The more
the Town grows, the more people will come to this office unless
the information can be accessed through their own cem utCers .
Chairman DeLory initiated lengthy discussion concerning
hiring appraisal companies every so often to perform state
mandated functions that Assessing is capable of doing 0 4P and
doing a better job. Mr , Bailey expressed agreement# he stated
that this is why we have a Data Collector. The problem is that
we have trouble keeping a Data Collector, so there is no
consistency ! .'
