Board of Assessors Meeting Page
Hearing on ideal Property Abatement Ai l- - Ma2 99 , Parcel 4
Owners William and Carolyn Andersen present
(Abatement Application 1 ) (continued)
twice the size on a "cost per square foot basis" there is
still only one kitchen, along with many other factors . David
Bailey further pointed out that the cost of windows in
Contemporary style douse is about triple the cost of windows in
other style houses. Discussion followed.
Kenneth Porter asked the identification of the property
across the street from the Andersens ' that is being discussed a
a comparable. Mrs . Andersen stated it is 99 Ockway Bair Road.
Mr. Porter identified it as Map 99 , Parcel 47. He informed that
the current assessment on Parcel. 47 i $304 , 000 ; the current
assessment on Parcel 46 ,- the Andersens ' property, is $201 ,000 .
David Bailey accessed the computer; he informed that Parcel
47 is described as a hIg her quality house than the Andersens ' and
is also described as a Contemporary style; it has 2 , 500 square
feet below grade in the cellar) this rakes a great
difference in construction costs.
Mrs . Anderson stated that she is still trying to understand
why the square foot value of her house is $39 .86 , the figure used
as a multiplier to arrive a the house value; her list of all the
other comparable houses have square foot values ire the range of
$33 t $38 . She submitted her list to David Bailey; he then
accessed the computer. Lengthy discussion followed.
David Bailey explained that the $39 .86 component is not
being used strictly to arrive at the value of theAndersens '
house; any house that fits this description will end up with a
similar value. When Mrs , Andersen suggested that Mr . Bailey use
a $35 squame foot value to find her house assessment, he
explained that there are too many r variable figures involved to
look at just one component. He recommended that he and The Board
review the comparable houses than Mrs . Andersen listed . More
discussion followed.
Chairman DeLory stated that The Board has heard enough
information at this hearing. He informed Mr. and Mrs . Andersen
that Board Members and David Bailey will have to review all the
data presented. The Board will thea inform the Andersons of Its
decision.
Mr. and Mrs. Andersen thanked Board Members and David Bailey
for their time and consideration. The hearing ended at .m.
