He will have a written payment plan but is
in no position to pay 1/12 of his takes every month; he is able
to pay something every month to avoid the Deputy Collector.
Mr. Bailey suggested that if the Board wants to do so ►ething l
Members could consider abating the interest portion . . or an
amount equal to the interest on the overdue 1997 and 1998 taxes .
The interest through next December will be about $525 . He
pointed out that this would give Mr. Swenson an interest-free
loan for two years .
David Bailey also informed that he had a pl.alned to Mr.
Swenson he would not recommend to the Board to abate the taxes as
a whole because he feels it would be unfair to the Town in the
event he filed for bankruptcy as was discussed during Mr.
Swenson ' s hearing . He expressed opinion granting an abatement on
the interest portion would show that the Town is trying to help.
In this manner, the Town is not losing out on payment of taxes .
Chairman Greig initiated lengthy discussion concerning
possible reasons why Mr. Swenson accumulated so much debt.
Vice Chairman Porter expressed opinion that Peter Swenson is
in need of help . . .
