Paul Andrews reported that he had emailed Marcia ding to inquire whether or not she was <br /> interested in being re-appointed to the seat, but had not received a response. Paul also stated <br /> that Sheldon Holzer was the name of the individual who had been running opposite Pawl Andrews <br /> for the open seat on the BOA at the time Paul was appointed. Paul made a recommendation that <br /> the Town contact Mr. Holzer to let him know that a seat has opened up on the BOA. Paul <br /> Andrews will email Joyce Mason to recommend that Mr. Homer be notified of the open seat. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> 1. open Meeting Law. Paul Andrews reported that in reviewing the Open Meeting Law after <br /> some internal BOA discussion with respect to compliance with the law} Paul found under the <br /> General Laws of Massachusetts, Part 1,Administration of the Government, Title ll: Cities, <br /> Towns and Districts, chapter 9: Section 23B—Open Metings of Governmental bodies, <br /> paragraph 24 which reads as follows: "Upon qualification for office following an appointment or <br /> electron to a governmental bony, as defined in this section,, the member shall be furnished by the <br /> city or town clerk with a copy of this section. Each such member shall sign a written <br /> acknowledgment that he hes been provided with such a copy." <br /> To bring the Board of Assessors into compliance with this Open Meeting Law, Paul Andrews <br /> distributed a copy of the open Meeting Lava to the sitting BOA members as well as John Duffy, <br /> Director of Assessing. Paul Andrews stated that since the Board members had signed their <br /> acknowiedgernent of receipt of aw copy of the Open Meefing Law, the Board members are now in <br /> compliance with the Open Meeting Law. Paul Andrews requested that a copy of the open <br /> Meeting Law be submitted to the Town Clerk. To do duce diligence, Paul Andrews will personally <br /> contact Joke Mason about the issue the BOA had with the importance of coming into <br /> compliance with the Open Meeting Law: suggesting that it would be a good way to bring other <br /> Town Boards into compliance as well. <br /> . Abatement bequest for Preliminary Real Property Tac Bill. Jason Streebel reported that <br /> there was an application received by the Assessing office for abatement of a preliminary real <br /> property tax for the year 2007. A piece of Vacant land was incorrectly classified under State Code <br /> 9059 as unbuildable, when in fact it should be State Code 9090, common land owned by the <br /> Deerfield Acres Trust Association. <br /> Paul Andrews made a motion to approve the abatement request from Deerfield Acres Trust for a <br /> preliminary real property tax bill. Jason Streebel seconded the motion. All approved. <br /> .
