. Meeting with Joyce Mason on 8/12108. Jason Streebel stated that he will be meeting <br /> with Joyce Mason tomorrow morning to receive her input as to what the explanation <br /> should be for the warrant article that has been submi ed by the Assessing Office for the <br /> October Town Meeting. The Board of Selectmen and the Finance Comma tee will be <br /> reviewing the article for approval. After his meeting with Joyce Mason, Jason Streebel will <br /> send a copy of the warrant article, without explanation, to the Finance Committee, with a <br /> copy to Theresa Cook, directing them to contact ,Jason Streebel for an explanation of the <br /> article. <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> 1. Steven Johnson Abatement Request Jason Streebel reviewed for the Board the status of <br /> the Veterans Disability Abatement Application from Steven .Johnson. Mr. Johnson, a Purple <br /> Heart veteran from Iraq, has paid his taxes and has qualified for a Disabled Veterans license <br /> plate, but for personal reasons does not want to display his Purple Heart distinction on his license <br /> plate. What is missing from Mr. Johnsonnis application is documentation from the IIA to <br /> substantiate his request for a disability exemption. To date, no documentation has been received <br /> from the IIA. <br /> A motion was rade, seconded and passed to grant the abatement request submitted by Mr. <br /> Steven Johnson. <br /> . Tax Collector Request for Payment of Various Personal Property Tax Abatements <br /> A motion was made, seconded and passed to grant the payment of"8 of " Personal Property <br /> Tac abatements for the fiscal years 2000 and 2006. <br /> . Boat Excise Tac Abatement Application—Steven McKee <br /> Jason Streebel stated that Mr. Mc ee's abatement request is for the tax period from 07101107 <br /> through 06/30108. Mr. McKee sold his boat on July 22, 2008. <br /> motion was made, seconded and passed to deny the tax abatement application request <br /> submitted by Steven McKee. <br /> . Motor Vehicle Tax Abatement Application—Richard Langley <br /> Jason Streebel stated that Richard Langley had submitted insufficient verification of his veteran's <br /> status to qualify for a motor vehicle tax abatement. <br /> motion was made, seconded and passed to deny the Motor Vehicle Tax Abatement Application <br /> request submitted by Richard Langley. <br /> NEW V BUSINESS <br /> . collection of Local Takes - Chapter o: section 3D. City or Town Aid to Elderly and <br /> Disabled Taxation Fund. The Board members discussed the possibility of the establishment of <br /> a llashpee Aid to Elderly and Disabled Taxation Fuad for individuals who do not otherwise qualify <br /> for tax exemptions. Donations to such a fund would come from Mashpee taxpayers who would <br /> voluntarily donate an amount not less than $1.00 along with tax their bills, to be deposited into a <br /> special account in the general treasury and would be in the custody of the Treasurer. A taxation <br /> aid committee would be established, consisting of the Chairman of the Board of Assessors, the <br /> Town Treasurer and three Mashpee residents to be appointed by the BOS• This committee <br /> would adopt the rules and regulations to identify the recipients of such aid. Jason Streebel will <br /> determine whether or not the donations to such a fund are tax deductible. <br /> 2 <br />
