TOWN OF M <br /> BOARD OF ASSESSORS - PUBLIC SESSION <br /> Minutes of the Meeting Wednesday, January 21, 2009 <br /> Board Members Present: Also Present: <br /> Paul Andrews, Chairman Jason streebel, Director of Assessing <br /> Sheldon Holzer, Vice chairman Edward Hunt, I lashpee Resident <br /> Gregg Fraser, Clergy } <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> Chairman Paul Andrews called the meeting to order at 5:45 PM. <br /> Jason Streebel introduced Edward Hunt to the Board, stating that he was present to <br /> request that the Board reconsider its decision to deny his Veterans Tax Exemption <br /> application at the BOA meeting held on October 1, 2008. <br /> motion was made, seconded and passed to move the discussion of Mr. Hunt's request <br /> to the first item on the meeting agenda. <br /> Jason streebel explained that previously, in order to qualify for the Veterans Tax <br /> Exemption, if you had your property in trust, your were required to be a trustee and a <br /> beneficiary. Multiple trusts on the same property would disqualify you. Due to a recent <br /> Appellate tax court decision and DOFF review, just being a trustee is now sufficient <br /> beneficial ownership to qualify for an exemption as long as the trust itself does not deny <br /> you as the applicant from living on the property. Jason stated that the Appellate court <br /> decision was made on November 1 �' of 2008, after the October 1, 2008 BOA decision <br /> to deny Mr. Hunt's Veteran's Tac Exemption application. <br /> A motion was made, seconded and passed to rescind the BOA motion on 10/01/08 to <br /> deny lir. Hunt's application for Veterans Tax Exemption. <br /> motion was made, seconded and passed to approve the Veteran's Tax Exemption <br /> application submitted by Edwin Aunt. <br /> REVIEW of MINUTES <br /> i A motion was grade, seconded and passed to approve as submitted the minutes from <br /> the BOA Public Session held on 12/03/08. <br /> BOARD OF ASSESSORS REPORTS <br /> Paul Andrews, Chairman <br /> 1. Paul Andrews reported on a memo received from the Mashpee Board of Selectmen <br /> regarding their Religious Beliefs Policy. The policy, dated 12115/08, states: <br /> "it is the adopted policy of the Burd of Selectmen that it supports all. individual <br /> in their right to fully practice religious beliefs. Towards that end, the Board of <br /> Selectmen directs all Boards/Committees or Commissions to refrain from <br /> scheduling Board meetings on a day/evening which would interfere with a <br /> member's right to observe religious practices." <br />
