categories for further breakdown that could be presented to the BOA, Board of
Selectmen and the Finance Committee for their review and comments.
r
Jason Streebel distributed copies of an Estimated Fiscal Year 2010 Tax Fate
Breakdown report that he worked on very closely with Dawn Barry, David Leary and
Marilyn Farren. The report presents varying options for breakdown of the tax numbers.
Jason Streebel explained that part of the difficulty in getting an accurate picture for each
department or category is that there is a general fund from which monies are allocated
as needed, but is not allocated per se to the various departments or categories. It is
' therefore not possible to define the enact amount of money that will go to Education, Fire
Dept, Police Dept., etc.
Jason Streebel attached a copy of a current tai bill to the report, which contains
information required by law, and clearly illustrates that there is no room for additidnal
information on the form itself. .
Joyce M stated that her only concern was that the school might feel that the Town
is trying to illustrate that the Education category appears to be receiving the largest
amount of the town's budget. .Joyce Mason added that distribution of the information
has benefit, but perhaps not on the tax bill.
Jason Streebel suggested doing an insert in the tax bill - ' here Your Tac honey Goes"
- or perhaps a handout at Town Meeting. Gregg Fraser suggested adding a statement
on the tax bill with information as to where to find further breakdown on where the to
monies go, i.e., the torn website, Gregg Fraser added that he personally favored the
overall percentage breakdown of the tax rate by Town function.
After further discussion, the group agreed that ars insert with the tax bill was the best
idea. Jason Streebel estimated that it would involve approximately one worts-day to
prepare the insert.
Gregg Fraser made a motion to recommend to the Finance Committee and the Board of
Selectmen that an insert be included in the tax bill that would provide an estimated
breakdown of the tax rate by Town function. Sheldon Holzer seconded the motion. The
motion was unanimously approved.
Gregg Fraser made a motion that the BOA go into Executive session, to reconvene to
Public Session, in order to comply with the provisions of General Lav 59, Section 60 to
discuss abatement applications, the contents of which are not public recon. Sheldon
Hofer seconded the motion. All approved.
The Board re-convened the Public Session at 6:38 PM. _
Roll Call: Paul Andrews, yes; Sheldon Holzer, yes; Gregg Fraser, yes.
Sheldon Holzer made a motion to ratify all the votes taken in the Executive session.
Gregg Fraser seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved.
Gregg Fraser made a motion to extend the filing deadline for charitable exemptions ptions from
March 1, 2010 until April,1, 2010. Sheldon Holzer.seconded the motion. The motion
was unanimously approved.
2
