Town of Mashpee
16 Great Neck Road North
R`y :qui c co Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649
BOARD OF HEALTH - PUBLIC SESSION MEETING
Mashpee Town Hall — Popponesset Meeting Room
Minutes of the Meeting of December 14, 2017
Board Members Present: Also Present:
Brian Baumgaertel, Chair Glen Harrington, Health Agent
Laurel Almquist, Co-Chair
Mallory Langler, Clerk
Chair Brian Baumgaertel called the meeting to order at 7:03 PM.
APPOINTMENTS
7:15 PM —Title V Variance— 161 Timberlane Drive.
Glen Harrington commented that the proposal includes a new dwelling on a vacant lot at 161 Timberlane Drive.
The proposed septic consists of a 2,000-gallon MicroFAST Model 0.5 Innovative Alternative septic treatment
unit that discharges to an H-20 distribution box and two 34.63' long x 2.5' wide by 2' deep leaching trenches. A
five-foot strip-out is required to keep the Soil Absorption System within 3 feet of grade. The plan was reviewed,
and some technical comments were made.
Jack Landers-Cauley, P.E., representing 161 Timberlane Drive, introduced himself to the Board.
Mr. Landers-Cauley commented that he appeared before the Conservation Commission about 20 minutes
before this meeting. The Conservation Commission requested that they continue because of mitigation issues
not septic. Because of local Board of Health regulations Mr. Landers-Cauley is requesting three variances and
is proposing an Innovative Alternative septic system. There will be a reduction in nitrogen as well as a
reduction in virus and bacteria.
Mr. Harrington stated that the property is not located in a Zone II, so there are no restrictions regarding
nitrogen loading: Mr. Harrington did suggest that the blower be relocated closer to the garage or underground
in order to avoid the noise complaints from the neighbors.
Brian Baumgaertel had two comments:
1. Place the vent on each end of the leach field.
2. The alarm panel for the Innovative Alternative system be placed on the exterior of the dwelling for
service.
Mr. Landers-Cauley reiterated the Board's requests of moving the blower closer to the house, add a second
vent, and depict the alarm on the plan.
Mallory Langler made a motion that the.Board of Health approve the septic plans for 161 Timberlane Drive with
the following conditions for variances:
1. Sampling requirements for Total Nitrogen quarterly for two years.
1
