It was toted that a four-wheel drive vehicle for Conservation
use is requested in fiscal year 2002.
Fire Department:.
George Baker, Fire Chief outlined his departmental needs for review and
consideration. The major priority of the department at this time is the
P=hase of a new aerial ladder truck for the Fire Department.
Mr. Baker justified his request for the purchase of a new vehicle as
opposed to a used vehicle. Attempts to bring older apparatus into
compliance can he expensive as well as impractical. Most used/rehabbed
vehicles have a life span of ten years. A new vehicle will last thirty years.
.ease is also ars additional option to consider.
As noted, the current risk, level of the community dictates the need for an
aerial ladder service. Numerous developments in the Town require the use
of an elevated rater strewn to prevent fire spread to adjoining
occupancies. The Insurance Service Office grades the availability of an
aerial ladder device for communities with more than gree three-story
buildings. More than 20 occupancies have dictated this need.
The operational cost of$15,000 as projected will provide training for all
employees. Additional manpower is not requested at this time. Staffing is
dependent upon the number of responses.
It was noted that in possible mitigation for development, the Torn may
have assistance to purchase a new aerial ladder truck next fiscal year.
Additional projects considered in fiscal year 2002 and 2003 include the
replacement of a Four- eel drive utility vehicle, deputy vehicle and the
replacement of the supply hose crplm .t on the department's to
pumpers and one tamer vehicles.
