The department has implemented a vehicle maintenance
program to ensure the safety and reliability of the fleet. The vehicle lease
rotation plan has proved cost effective since most maj0or repairs occur
during the warranty period. The department also conducts their own
vehicle maintenance program completing most of the repairs and safety
checks in-house. Preventative maintenance procedures include the
rotation of tires. Fire rotation has been deemed highly cost effective for
the department. Each vehicle with the exception of the department's pick-
up truer is assigned to to shifts opposed to 24 Hour usage. This practice
alleviates further vehicle wear and tear, and allows the department to
maintain within the three-year warranty agreement of 36,000 miles.
