4 <br /> Capital hnprovement Committee <br /> Minutes <br /> December 7, 2004 <br /> Review of CIP Requests: <br /> Police Ike artrnent: <br /> FY06 Requests: <br /> Purchase 10 Police vehicles s : 350: <br /> Replace Heating System- $35,000: <br /> 1 lodemi e Secure Evidence Storage -$-Z5,000: <br /> CIP Cornraittee member Jerry Um na stepped down for the above <br /> referenced review. <br /> Al Todino, Deputy Chief of Police was present with Police Sergeant <br /> ns o to discuss the capital improvement programs requests of the Police <br /> Department. <br /> handout relative to the number of police department vehicles,the <br /> replacement year and life expectancy was distributed. Also for <br /> distribution was a sample of cruiser assignments for the day, evening and <br /> midnight shifts. Presently the department has twenty vehicles and two <br /> motorcycles which are grant funded. *The mileage of all vehicles was <br /> requested by the CIP Committee for additional review. <br /> In addition,the Police Department has proposed to purchase a new SUV <br /> as a Patrol Sergeant vehicle utilizing $26,300 from the insurance recovery <br /> account received for a totaled police vehicle.. The SLJV vehicle would be <br /> expected to be retained by the department for five years. The present <br /> patrol sergeant vehicle would then be transferred to the fleet of <br /> departmental vehicles. *More information relative to the purchase <br /> proposal of the Slav was requested. <br /> It is the intention of the department to maintain an adequate number of <br /> vehicles to stay within mileage constraints (75,000 mile warranty) and to <br /> alleviate mechanical problems. Vehicles used by the patrol staff are <br /> required to be highly reliable and dependable. lust year, there were <br /> recalls which detained several vehicles for a number of days. The cruiser <br /> plan developed by the department assigns each vehicle to two shifts of the <br /> three patrol shifts during the department"s twenty-four hour operation. <br /> This policy manages the mileage, maximizes the vehicle warranty and <br /> saves on repair expenses, <br />
