4 <br /> Capital Improvement Program Committee <br /> Minutes <br /> December 19, 200 <br /> Building & Grounds: (continued) <br /> The installation of a fuel depot at the DPW facility was a1 so-requested to <br /> assist With rising costs in fuel consumption. The fuel depot would be used <br /> by all Town vehicles. The budget estimate of$140,000 does not include a <br /> canopy or fire suppression system which is not required by the-fire code. <br /> The Committee agreed to research the potential to borrow the funds within ; <br /> the limitations of proposition 2 1/ for the fuel depot. 1f the Town were to <br /> move forward with the project, the budget would be further defined for <br /> appropriation purposes. <br /> Department of Public Works: <br /> Greg Taylor, Director of Public Works was in attendance with Catherine <br /> Laurent, Assistant Director ofPublic Worts.to discuss capital <br /> improvement items for fiscal year 2008 with members of the CIP <br /> Committee. It was disclosed there are no outstanding lease payments for <br /> DPW vehicles and/or equipment. <br /> An ongoing C1P request for a ease tractor and beach rake was prioritized <br /> by the DPW for FY0 . The beach rake has been exposed to a salt- <br /> environment for the past eighteen years and is in extremely poor <br /> condition. The tractor,used to pull the rake is in similar condition. <br /> The beach rake is used by the Town to clean the beaches. The <br /> replacement tractor to be used for the beach clearing would also be <br /> utilized by the department to perform other functions such as road-side <br /> mowing. The cost for the two pieces of equipment is $42,000. <br /> The replacement of the 1996wood/brush chipper in the amount of <br /> $30,000 was p6oriti ed. The piece of equipment is used frequently and is <br /> considered essential during emergency situations. The Town has to <br /> wood brush chippers. The chipper proposed for replacement is no longer <br /> dependable, and parts are not readily mailable as the model is no longer <br /> manufactured. <br />
