The vehicle
was a noted transfer from the Fire Department in October 2004 with
104,000 miles. The CIP vehicle replacement request is $40,000. A more
definitive cost estimate would be obtained if the CIP elects to onsider a
new vehicle purchase for the DPW in FY09. It was noted a smaller 4 WD
SUV, pick-up or hybrid vehicle would be considered by the department i
an effort to reduce budgetary constraints. The older vehicle would be used
s a trade--in or transferred to,another depdrtment for linmit d usage. There
is approximately 120,000 miles on the vehicle to slate.
An ongoing capital request of the DPW is to replace the 1995 sweeper.
The purchase.of a neer sweeper was initially proposed in FY02. The
sweeper, estimated to cost$5 0,00 is used by the DPW every spring to
clear sand from the Town roads after the winter season. Approximately
o ails of road are swept during the winter months. It is also used to
sweep roads prior to paving.
At the direction of the Board ofSelectmen, the extension of the Route 130
bikeway/walkway from Heritage Park to Pickerel Cove Road was
presented to the CIP for funding consideration. The project is supported
by the community and as a warrant article at the May 2007 Torn Meeting.
To reduce cost constraints, the DPW would serve as construction manager.
To date, the project design$60,000 has been paid in full. Mitigation funds
in the amount of$176,000 are available from the Cape Cod Commission
to support the ,too' bikeway/sidewalk project which includes the
installation of a new crossing light for safety.
