r'
There followed a discussion concerning the appropriate amount for the key deposit for
those groups wishing to use the Senior Center. $25 seemed to be the consensus amount.
The other"ley" issue is how far in advance the key should be acquired—24 hours seemed
appropriate. It is felt that the Council on Aging must reestablish control over use of the
building. Discussed was the fact that not all neighborhood groups would have access to
the senior center—only those with at least a % senior membership.
Another issue brought forward by Jing was the need to review existing staffmg after the
move to the new building. He will develop arguments in support of additional paid
employees to supplement the efforts of the volunteers who currently work at the front-
desk.
The Friends of the Nkshpee Senior Center,Inc. has announced that fundraising
approaches (nay now have exceeded) $250,000. Coverlets are now available at a cost of
and the BRICK program L's ongoing. with the beginning of fundraising efforts for
the new Library, our fundraising efforts could become more difficult.
The wilding Committee Furniture Committee continues to meet concerning furniture
specifications for the new center. window blinds is the next order of business and some
prices have already been provided.
We continue to await word from Leila Botsford concerning her return to the Council.
Housing Authority hours have been reduced and there was a question as to whether the
Housing Authority would release Leila for our meetings. A letter was seat from the
Senior Center supporting her attendance.
i
The Council needs to help plan a Grand Opening for the new facility. More on that
subject later.
The last item of major concern is the fact that there sloes not seem to be much interest in
applying for a seat on the Council on Aging. One resume was received from Virginia
McIntyre of Mashpexe, copy of which is attached.
OUTREACH COORDINATOR'S REPORT
Lynne Waterman discussed several of the 24 hone visits she made over the past month.
Concerning nes volunteers—one was added, who will be assisting ith receptionist
duties. Also discussed was Lynne's meeting with, canvassing volunteers who have
reported that they have now visited seniors whose street addresses begin with letter
through G. Also, a request was made of the Friends of the Mashpee Council on Aging to
fund Mary Lou Holland's position for another six months. That request was denied.
Lynne also outlined the many meetings/contacts which she participated over the last
month.
