TAX ABATEMENT--Program for this year is in progress. There are
thirty slots available and some will be reserved for the senior center. There
have been more than 30 applicants and the program i s- taking up much time
and effort.
JOYCE MASON was recognized to talk about the May Town Meeting and
the Council on Aging warrants to be considered. She spoke favorably about
the warrant establishing the revolving account, but was not in favor of the
two warrants to provide additional part-time help for the Senior Center—one
at the front desk and one for additional cleaning services for the Center. She
said that there are no new positions proposed in this year's town budget, and
if these positions were to be approved, their funding would have to come
from some current positions.
Discussion ensued regarding cleaning issues with the new building and the
concerns of the Council about maintaining this wonderful new building at a
high level. Mr. Long suggested that we get some professional advice on
cleaning requirements and offered to contact Cape Cod Healthcare for some
suggestions. Mrs. Mason concurred about the need for improvement and
suggested in-house consultation from the Mashpee Schools which do an
incredible job. Mr. Long was asked to follow up.
The Council promised to work with Ms. Mason in the meantime to come to
a resolution concerning the level of services needed and availably.
The Director's report was unanimously accepted.
OUTREACH COORDINATOR'S REPORT
Lynne Waterman discussed several of her cases and went on to
talk about the new volunteer added to the teleffiend program.
Lynn mentioned the three S.H.I.N.E.counselors assigned to us.
One advises seniors on Mass Health issues only, one is currently in
Florida and one has health problems.
