Mashpee Council on Aging 26 Frank E. Hicks Drive Mashpee, MA 02649 Volunteer Assistant April 2010 Volunteer Recognition It's almost here. The excitement and "busy" ness builds. We are looking forward to another nice morning spent together with good food and good friends. The event begins at 9:30 this year and we plan to let people start seating themselves around 9:00 AM. Jim will announce when it is time to open the doors. A table (or more if necessary) will be reserved for COA people and their spouses. We would like you to be here at 8:30 to get your badges and be ready to greet our guests — also to be sure that doors stay closed and people do not enter the multi-purpose room until Jim gives the word. I hope that opening the doors before the scheduled time for the event will relieve some of the congestion in the lobby. New Volunteers: Josephine Tucker— Entertainment The influx of volunteers has slowed for now. We are working hard on effectively employing the front desk volunteers who no longer have so many shifts available at the front desk. I do have a number of volunteer prospects with a note to call in the spring. So I will be doing that after volunteer recognition. Gardening Project Kim Briggs has started with meeting people interested in gardening in our backyard. They plan container flowers, a vegetable garden and a bird house. I am excited about making our backyard space welcoming and useful. Volunteer Opportunities Handbook Joan Pennell has put together for us a book with listings from other Mashpee programs which use volunteers. This will be available through me for anyone who wishes to expand their volunteering or who just can't find the right position with us. Looking forward to seeing you all at Volunteer Recognition.
