}
i
Mashpee Council ars Aging
26 Freak E Hicks Drive
Mashpee, MA 02649
Volunteer Assistant
May -June 2010
New Volunteers
Maureen Harris — Entertainment, Thrift Shop, Newsletter
Jack and CarolynJensen — Newsletter, Projects
Maggie Crowley— Newsletter, Thrift Shop
Victor Blumenthal - Driver
Manual
The revision of our Volunteer Manual is nearly complete. We have added a
sheet on "other Volunteer opportunities" in Mashpee for those who may not find just the
right fit with us. Further information on other organizations using volunteers and specific
information on jobs and contacts is available through me or at the front desk. This has
been a project of my "Most Valuable Volunteer," Joan Pennell.
Current Needs
Our current needs for volunteers include: drivers, friendly visitors, newsletter,
gardening and members bers of the Entertainment Committee. These positions will be
advertised in our newsletter and at the Project Hope website,
www.capecodvolunteers.com.
Volunteer Recognition
Done for another year! It is always a wonderful time to get together with our
volunteers and recognize a couple of people who have made an exceptional
contribution. See the feed back on the attached sheet. I was particularly pleased with
how it worked hawing the caterer ready 1/ hour before we had invited people and
allowing people to come in up to "/ hour-before the event. Also Mary LeClair wasa most
interesting speaker.
It is a nice time to reflect on the impact our volunteers mace. We have around
20 volunteers at any given time doing what needs to be done to support the-staff and
Ilarshpee seniors. The symbolic check to the town showed the monetary value. The
emotional and physical value of the volunteer's work is harder to measure, but also, has
great value.
What do you like about the senior center?
Responses to this question are also on the attached sheet. Evidently we have-
friendly people, a beautiful and well maintained facility: great leadership and well run
programs. It's nice to feel appreciated. See Attachment.
Respectfully submitted,
y
Judith Genge
Volunteer Assistant
4
