OUTREACH COORDINATOR'S REPORT
August 2010
HOME VISITS/APPOINTMENTS
Twenty-seven were made this past month, in addition to client contact by phone call.
I assisted several seniors in reapplying for fuel assistance.
Requests for information and assistance in obtaining affordable housing and transportation
continue to be a major focus of my work with seniors.
I met with several adult children overwhelmed with the care of their parents with significant
physical problems, memory loss, hoarding concerns, substance abuse, suicide risk, etc.
VOLUNTEERS
I continue to meet monthly with the telefriend, SHINE, friendly visitor assistant, grief support,
birthday flower delivery, fuel assistance, and biography volunteers, to provide supervision and
assign clients.
I trained a new friendly visitor and a new driver. As I reported in June's report, volunteer ride
request continue to increase. As a result, I am encouraging seniors to use the B-bus, and
informing seniors that they need to have other sources of transportation (in addition to the
Council on Aging van and volunteer drivers).
SHINE volunteer Antoinette Day began her responsibilities here at the Senior Center. We are
fortunate to have three SHINE counselors, and expect the fall season to be a busy one for health
insurance information and assistance.
Friendly Visitor Assistant Olive Granville retired after many years of helping me with the
program. I want to express my sincere appreciation for her dedication.
MEETINGS/CONTACTS
I attended the monthly meeting of the town's hoarding task force.
Jim Long and I met with Paula George, of the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority, to discuss
how the B-bus can increase its service to Mashpee seniors.
Respectfully Submitted,
°(//13,1)6
Lynne Waterman
LFWFIcw
