Mashpee Council on Aging
26 Frank E. Hicks Drive
Mashpee, MA 02649
Volunteer Assistant
July — August 2010
I can't believe summer is gone already. It has been a little more eventful for me
at the Senior Center since I have been able to spend a little more than usual time
here.
New Volunteers
Marion McNiece — Newsletter, Entertainment Committee
Susan Wehner— Newsletter, Friendly Visitor
Donna Wallace — Front Desk, Newsletter
Barbara Bruch —Thrift Shop, Intergenerational
Rose Mary Palizzolo — Newsletter, Friendly Visitor
Margaret Moore — Driver
Barbara Read — Newsletter, Office Projects
Volunteer Manual
We now have a revised and updated volunteer manual. I have had lots of help
and good suggestions from our volunteers as we developed it. Special thanks to Joan
Pennell for the quotes on each page and to Susan Clark for the cover. See handouts.
Wheew! It was a long time coming.
CapeCodVolunteers
This is a new web site developed through the Cape Cod Community Foundation
as a resource for people who are looking for volunteer work. Thanks to Maria Sullivan,
we have a few volunteer positions listed there. —Thrift Shop, Friendly Visitor, Driver,
Newsletter
i
So far we have had inquiries from three people. One person is already signed up
as a driver; one person had an appointment on 8/26 but didn't come; and one person
had an appointment today but couldn't come because of a death in the family. The one
person who signed up is great, but I hope we don't spin our wheels too often on people
who just don't show.
Also, I understand that in developing a Volunteer Manual for their use, the
Foundation used major portions of our manual. A nice vote of confidence for us. I
Volunteer Training j
We are planning to host a training this fall for volunteers on "Dealing with Difficult
People." Lynne gave me a couple of suggestions of people she thought would do a
really nice job. We are looking forward to having a workshop in October or November.
Respectfully Submitted,
Judy Genge
Volunteer Assistant
j
i
4
I
