Community Preservation Committee. <br /> Minutes <br /> May 23, Zoo % <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Glenn Marshall—Old Indian Medina House: <br /> Yvonne Avant was present on behalf Glenn Marshall tc discuss the <br /> application of the Mashpee Warnpanoag Indian Tribal Council for funding <br /> to assist with the restoration of the old Indian Meetinghouse. The amount <br /> of CPA funding requested is$325,000. <br /> ' The Meetinghouse is of historical significance to the Mashpee <br /> Wampano g Tribe, the Town of Mashpee, the Council of Churches and <br /> the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is one of the oldest <br /> meetinghouses in the Mate of Massachusetts. <br /> The Old Indian Meetinghouse has hosted community baptisms,weddings <br /> and funerals for many generations. Restoration would give assurance t <br /> the retm of these ceremonies. It was noted there is wndespread <br /> community support for the $869,000-pro ect. Supporters include the <br /> Mashpee Chamber of Commerce, the Catholic Church and Mashpee <br /> Commons. It was noted that some of the finding has been committed by <br /> the state and through grant funds and other benefactors. <br /> Discussion followed with respect to Sunday services and using CPQ.funds <br /> to fund places of worship. It was disclosed that CPA funds can be used <br /> for religious buildings. IIs. Avant added that long term plans include <br /> opening the building for all and holding tours for the general public. <br /> Ms. Avant was requested to remit to the Committee, a breakdown of the <br /> proposed budget, a construction timetable and related scope of work for <br /> the intended restoration pr ject proposal. Fetters of support were also <br /> missing from the application and were requested to be submitted to the <br /> Committee for additional review. <br /> It was disclosed that a historic deed restriction easement would be <br /> required if the project is approved by the CPC Cottee for CPA grant <br /> funding. <br /> No CPA funds would be earmarked for maintenance. <br />
