6
Commumty Preservation Committee
Minutes
. May 8, 2007
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Mashpee Public Schools—Brad Tripp lgU ose Grady—High.School
Tek Reuac :
Due to scheduling conflicts, Mr. Tripp was unable to attend the meeting.
School Committee members Mar Rose Grady and Rebecca Romkey were
in attendance to discuss the CPA requests of the School Department. Ann
Bradshaw, Superintendent of Schools was also present for discussion
purposes.
The high school track resurfacing project, a second request to the CPC for
funding has also been an ongoing request in the Town's Capital
Improvement Program CIP budget.
The CPA funding request is $69,3 00 to resurface the eleven year old track
to alleviate a costly and complete renovation. The request is not deemed a
maintenance issue. The existing track would be resurfaced with two
layers of EPDM rubber granules. Upon successful application of the
rubber, an ultraviolet resistant coating would be applied to the entire track.
The ultraviolet resistant coating is designed to Protect the trach surface
from the degradation of the sun's rays. Line markings would be included
in accordance with high school standards.
With the Town's approval of the track resurfacing using CPA funding, the
School Department would enter into a maintenance contract with a general
contractor to protect the track from the sun. The pro f ect would not be an
ongoing funding request. If CPA funding is received, the track would be
resurfaced in the fall of Zoo .
The Committee requested"in writing" an assurance from the School
Department that funds would be committed to conduct ongoing
maintenance of the high school track.
It was noted the School Department was not aware of the degradation
impact from the sun's rays. As a result, a maintenance contract was not
secured to apply resistant ultraviolet coatings to the trach. The project, a
four-year CIP,request would not only benefit the public schools, but the
community as well. Letters of support were contained in the application
from the Director of Leisure Services and High School Athletic Director.
