Community Preservation Committee <br /> Minutes <br /> May 8, 2007 <br /> } <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Mashpee.Public_Schools—Barad Tripp/MWRose G� .'., .-SMaetic Turf; <br /> An application Was before the Committee to install synthetic turf at the <br /> high school stadium. The CPQ.funding request is $8001,000. `IY <br /> application is a resubmission. The request Was reconfigured from the <br /> initial request of$950,000. <br /> MaryRose Grady, Rebecca Romkey and Ann Bradshaw Were present t <br /> discuss the synthetic turf funding request for consideration at the October <br /> 2007 Town Meeting. Brad Tripp had a scheduling conflict. <br /> The use of synthetic turf Would allow unlimited use of the stadium field <br /> without damage to the playing field. In an effort to preserve the field for <br /> the home football ga.nnes the field is only used for a few senior rights and <br /> graduation. <br /> Renovating the stadium Would ease the burden on the fields at Heritage <br /> Park. Fertilization and pesticide applications Would also be eliminated. <br /> synthetic turf field Would become a premier sports facility for the Town of <br /> • I a hpee. Opportunities to rent the field may assist to offset maintenance <br /> costS4 <br /> It Was disclosed the synthetic turf project may not be eligible for CPA <br /> funding. A further legislative act in the future may allow for this type of <br /> project within the scope of the CPA. The matter Would be reviewed by <br /> the Committee to accurately disclose the limits of the Conunu ity <br /> Preservation Act as it pertains to the synthetic turf projectroposal. <br /> Discussion followed regarding the mandates of the Town Charter as it <br /> pertains to the Department of Public Works maintaining school grounds <br /> and property. It is hopeful the School Department Would have future <br /> conversation v <br />
