4
Community Preservation Committee
Minutes
September 8, 2009
OLD BUSINESS:
Name That Conservation Land Contest:
The,Town of Mashpee and Mashpce Conservation Commission are having
a contest to find a suitable name for the recently purchased 78.67 acre
Vinhaven parcel located off Route 130. The land, a former church
campground called Vinhaven was funded through Community
Preservation Act funds, through an approved taxpayer debt exclusion and
with Fish and Wildlife contributions for a conservation restriction.
CPC members were requested to consider entering the contest. Once a
winning name has been selected, a sign will be created and placed at the
Route 130 entrance to the parcel.
It was noted the CPC would be acknowledged on the intended
conservation land signage.
CPC Signage for Fundedā€˛Projects:
Tom Mayo, the Town's GIS Administrator is working on signage for the
CPC Committee to portray CPA funded properties. The draft sign will be
reviewed at the next meeting.
Santuit Pond Dam Update
Representatives from the Town of Barnstable and Division of Fish&
Wildlife are scheduled to meet with the chair of the CPC and Town
officials on September 22 d to review the potential of sharing costs
associated to the repair of the Santuit Pond Dam which has failed
compliance with the Office of Dam Safety and the Department of
Conservation and Recreation.
To date, the Community Preservation Committee has funded the
preliminary work conducted by the engineering firm Weston& Sampson,
approximately $19,000.
Presently, the water level is down as boards have been removed to lower
the lake level and reduce pressure against the dam.
