3
Community Preservation Committee
Minutes
September 8, 2009
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Public Hearing—Application Procedures for May 2010 Town Meeting=
(continued)
The Mashpee Baptist Church is located in the Mashpee Historic District
on Great Neck Road North and is of significant history to the Town of
Mashpee.
Pastor Frye asked about the guidelines for CPA funding. Discussion
followed with respect to acceptable uses of CPA funds for historic
resources. In accordance wit the adoption of the CPA Act, CPA funds
may be spent or set aside for the acquisition, preservation, rehabilitation
and restoration of historic resources. The Act defines rehabilitation as
including handicapped access and other capital improvements that may be
necessary for historic properties to meet federal and local building codes,
or to make those sites functional for the intended use of the facility.
Reverend Frye asked about constructing an addition to the church and was
directed to discuss with the Town Planner, the guidelines on how CPA
funding can be utilized to assist historic properties. Since the property lies
within the Town of Mashpee Historic District, it is necessary for the
applicant to discuss the project intent to gain approval from the Historic
District Committee prior to the application submission.
Additional information can be found at The Secretary of the Interior's
Standards for the rehabilitation of historic properties and cultural
landscapes website www.pps.-ov or by reviewing the Massachusetts
Historical Commission website rtfvw.stte. g .t/sec/1llc.
Being no further comment, the Committee motioned to close the Public
Hearing.
Motion made by Mr. Larkin to close the Public Hearing.
Motion seconded by Mr. Halpern.
VOTE.- Unanimous.
