Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> November 3,2014 <br /> Catherine aurert—Public Works Director; <br /> Recommendation for Award of Contracts for Sand and Salt: <br /> Through a regional bid,the Torn of Mashpee has solicited quotes for the purchase of <br /> sand and salt. For road salt, it is recommended that a contract be awarded to Eastern <br /> Minerals of Lowell, MA for$67.57 per ton. It is the lowest bid, and it represents a 31% <br /> increase from last year. <br /> The lowest regional bids for sand represented a 30%increase. The DPW Director in her <br /> memorandum of October 1 , 2014 advised the Town to solicit quotes from local sources <br /> for the purchase of sand. Based on the quotes received it was recommended that <br /> contract be awarded to Cape Cod Aggregates Corp. of Barnstable in the amount of <br /> 10.50 per ton. The figure represents a 4%decrease from last fiscal year. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to accept the recommendation of the DPW <br /> Director and award a contract to Eastem Minerals for load Salt and Cape Cod <br /> Aggregates Corp. for Sand as referenced. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Richardson. <br /> VOTE: [unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call vote: <br /> Selectman Taylor,yes Selectman Richardson,yes <br /> Selectman Sherman,yes Selectman Cahalane,yes <br /> Selectman Gottlieb,yes Opposed,none <br /> Catherine Laurent—Public WorksDirector: Project Updates: <br /> South Cape Beach: <br /> Catherine Laurent indicated that most of the work related to the South Cape Beach <br /> improvement project is complete. Photographs were distributed to depict the renovation <br /> of the dune and parking areas. The remainder of the project is anticipated tbe <br /> conducted in the spring. Work includes the construction of a stairway over the dune area, <br /> the planting of beach grass to protect the dunes, and the re-striping the parking lot. <br /> The project included three change-orders to provide for the purchase and installation of <br /> silt fencing to control and direct access to the beach and to protect the dune areas. <br /> Currently,there are three pathways to the beach. If desired,the site has the ability to <br /> accommodate a 4 entry. Overtime costs were also required as a project change order to <br /> advance the workp rior to the onset of the beach season. Overall,the project remains <br /> under budget assumptions. <br />
