Conservation commission
December 2 7, 1990
Page 6.
i
Mr. Grotzke stated this plah adesses what they had asked for some time ago. It
shows, consistent with early discussion, the beach fencing and the restored dune;
that is basically all- that's left to be done. He pointed to a fence that perhaps
should not be there, it serves no purpose, the same thing could be achieved with
plantings.
Mr. Desrosiers' stated that is the fence closest to the road. It could be eliminated
and plantings increased as a condition,
Mr. Coffey asked the amount of fill for a starter supply? Mr. Grotzke stated the
dune would be carried across to be consistent with what is on both sides, restored
to it's original configuration without an eroded path through there.
Mr. Desrosiers stated with a continuation of existing contours.
Mr. Coffey was not sure of the section under which whatever volume would be allowable
to place, but to back p dump truck with whatever has been excavated from the found-
tions. . . . . . .
Mr. Grotke stated this would not be from the foundations. He pointed to the area
where they Will be placing 500 cubic yards of beach nourishment. They can have one
truck back in and dump one load of sand with no additional impacts on the shore or
beach. The equipment will be there anyway and it makes sense to do it while there.
Mr. Desrosiers agreed.
Mr. Coffey stated he is all for stopping a potential breach area, but he would like to
know, if that has a certain height to it, and in a gap that is something of a wind
tunnel., does that mean they will be increasing the velocity of the wind going through
the gap and transporting 8 of the 1.0 yards inland or out to sea.
Mr. Grotzke stated instead of having a fence or a fence with a gap in i t, they could
offset the fence slightly seaward to where the wind would not be able to wrap around
the edges of the fence but overlap and leave enough for people to go around until
such time as they resolve that entire issue. He feels it would be best to have the
fence there but offset to allow passage which would get sand accretion. Hopefully,
by spring it will be planted with beach grass. They may come to some agreement to
build a walkover structure down the line.
Mr, Coffey did not know if there was some significant downside if it does not take;
that the plus or P.dnus 10 yards talked about is crucial, that it is truly going to
smother something or increase erosion on the sides of the gaps. He would be more
amenable if he knew there was some monitoring to go with this that a year after
Planted it be reviewed, whether accreting or d=
