w '
TS HPE CONSERVATION C0TIU4ISZ3I0N REGULARM11-14TING
DATE: February 16, 1978 Mashpee Town Half.
TIME: P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Studley, iTith the follow-*
ing members in attendance: Jim LeClair, Charles Buckingham, Barbara Sloane
and Pauline DeLory.
Mrs. Studley said that, regarding the Wheeler project, Mr. Coleman had
called her and she also received a letter statin; there would be a pre-hear-
ing
re-hear-
ing meeting on February 10th, with the hearing being held on the 27th. She
also received a call. from Mr. Sullivan and t heylis u=sed the Nbeel.er thing.
He said that when he wrote up the superseding order, he had included a pro--
vision for water quality monitoring, but when the order was finally written +
by DQE, that'was left out, and that this seems to be ghat the humeto-J hn'
Pond people are looking for in the order*
Mrs. Studley also said that she didn't g e t to the Post Office today, but
she assumes she will be notified. Slip, in iiired if anyone was interested in
gong to this hearing in Boston, if she ge=ts notification. Mrs. Sloane stated
that we should have a body there, but it appears that no one can go. Mr. Cole-
man
ole-
man also told Mrs. Studley that he thought that the ,association would insist
upon the water monitoring - it would be acceptable to thea if they put it in
the Order OX Conditions. Mr. Buckingham suggested writing a letter.
Mrs. Studley mentioned that Mr. Sullivan had called her and discussed
uckabee and Kelleher. To continue on with the Wheeler matter, she asked if
the Commission should subm ft something and Mrs. Sloane asked if a letter
could be written saying; that none of the Commission can appear due to pre-
vious commitments and if it is only the ,rater monitoring, we would go along
with It - if the meeting is indeed on the 27th, the Commission can' appear
and will go along with the water monitoring if that is their big problem.
Mr. LeClair wondered who would be doing the monitoring and Mrs. Studley
said that she had u-ge G ed the heelers be rtes onsible. Irs. Sloane asked
if it wssn t t a good idea to send out a letter so that they will know the Com-*
mission is interested and Mrs. Studley said that once she has the information.,
she will send out a letter.
Mr. Buckingham said that what bugs him is to go up there and look at that
pond in the steer and, having kn im •that was -going on at the Mud Hole, to
have anyone say that the two situations were similar is ridiculous. Mrs. Stud-
ley said that Mr. Coleman did believe that the little pond was spring--fed - that
t
that little mud pond would stag wet, but not entirely adding ,that there are
springs on the Cape despite ghat everyone says.
Mr. Buckingham said that it is underground grater that's reaching its top
level and begins to wonder after awhile what kind of a difference we 're split-
ting hairs about . it's water that has found an open vein -- the water-bearing
soil underground is the aq ifier. The difference of water on the Cape is that
there is no spring. Mrs. Studley said that she was shown a sprang over here
at the cranberry ry bogs by a nature Indian of Mashpee.
Mrs. Studley asked what the members would like for her to put in the Town
Report, adding that she had received a bit of an extension. Yx. LeClair sug-
gested mentioning working on that reap for Gary Parker - the land-use inventory.
Mrs. Studley mentioned that we did have some Mashpee River stuff that was
shelved temporarily, adding that the Commission 'is working on the water pol-w
lution on John's Pond -- the Lake- Mana m #t.
