f 1 ' CONSERVATION ION C 'Vj I ION MINUTES of MARCH 28 , 1984 MASHPEE TOWN A The following members of the Mashpee Conservation Commission were present for tonight ' s meeting: Chairman Dorothy G. Studley left meeting at :45 p.m. ) , vice Chairman Pauline F. DeLory, Stuart Peoples and B. jean Thomas., Chairman Studley convened the meeting at 7:40 p.m. . ti Discussion of Helico ter Pad -- Bayview Condominiums George Benway met with the Commission to advise therm that he would be subm i tt irig formal .appIi c a.t ion-., for the proposed helicopter pad which they would like to construct on the cranberry bog at the Bay- view Condominiums. Previous discussion of this helicopter pad was held at the Commission' s meeting of September 14, 1983 . Mr. Benway said that the intent was to use the helicopter for emer- gency use and not for commuting purposes. The access to the pad would be built like a dike similar to that of a wooden pier. The pad itself would be built of sand and gravel and the sides would .be ties. There would be no parking of air craft. Jean Thomas asked if there was any other place other than the bog to construct the helicopter pad Fir. Benway told the Commission that there is upland; however, a large amount of trees would have to be cleared if they were to choose another location. He said that he called the Bedford FAA and they said that 200 feet would have to be cleared. } Chairman Studley asked what he considered emergency use? lir. Benway said that a heart attack victim, somebody who had fallen down stairs r someone with emphysema would be emergency use. Jean Thomas asked how he planned to get the sand 'and gravel in? Mr. Benway replied "with a bucket" . Pauline DeLory asked if it would be accessible to other people in other developments ." Mr.. Benway said that it would not be restrictive. i Chairman Studley asked about the zoning regulations? Nir. Benway said that there is no zoning applicable as there is no provision. He said that he did not consider it to be a► structure, Jean Thomas suggested that a► question be posed to town counsel as she felt it gill be a structure. Discussion was made with reference to the. size of the bog which is ap- proximately 6.9 acres according to Mr. Benway. He said that it would 1 not interfere with water flow or run-off or natural ditches. Pauline DeLory asked why he couldn't use the tennis court area. Mr. i Benway said that the net would be up and that the helicopter people thought the best place would be in the bog. Reference was made to the Falmouth Hospital helicopter landing area and .the amount of area cleaned. J
