h
{
i
Minutes of the Meeting of the Mashpce Americans with Disabilities Act Committee,
March 9, 200
The Mashp e Americans with Disabilities Act Committee met Thursday, March 9, 2006
at M shpee Town Hall Meeting Room ##2.
Members in attendance:
William Dundon co-chair)
Beverly Wooldridge co-chair)
Marilyn Farren
Mert Sapers
Patricia P rolski
Robert Wooldridge
The minutes of the February 9, 2005 meeting tin were reviewed and approved.
The Selectmen have voted to hold the May 1, 2006 Town Meeting in the M shpee High
School gymnasium vice the auditorium in response to concerns about the suitability of
the auditorium raised by a number of town officials. Trish reported the School
Committee had discussed this rove at the most recent School Board meeting and has
given approval. She noted the gyrn offers more access points, has easier access to seating
and microphones and has facilities for live broadcast. She reported the TO' wn Manager is
working with police and fire officials is to insure close-in parking for seniors and disabled.
Additionally, high school students will be positioned in the parking lots to provide
assistance much like valet parking)to those needing it.
Trish also noted that Brad Tripp, School Department Director of Facilities and
Maintenance, plans to install `bumpers"around the video platforms used for handicapped
seating at public events at the high school auditorium. Action on automating the front
door remains dependent on the availability of funds at the end of the year.
The co-chairmen signed a letter requesting the Selectmen take action to implement the
amendment to the handicapped parking bylaw that was approved at the October Town
Meeting, and set the penalty for violations of handicapped parking laws at a minimum of
$100.
The Selectmen have a fever questions about the two warrant items the committee
submitted for the May 1, 2006 Town Meeting. Bob has been invited to the Marchi 13,
2006 Selectmen's meeting to elaborate on the articles. The article regarding street signs
may not, make the cut because of the number of legal and 'Implementation problems.
However, if the item sloes not make the cut, we will have the opportunity to raise the
issue and get them to consider alternative solutions to the problem. Bob will call 11D
to see if they have had any experience in or suggestions for dealing with this problem
based on actions in other communities.
