;i
I:
Mr. Jim Vaccaro and Mr. Toni Feronti of Mashpee Commons Limited Partnership
provided an update on actions taken and planned to address access concerns within
Mashpee Commons. Mr. Feronti reported improvements 'n the transition points from
street to sidewalks at the curb cuts, a new curb cut behind the Ann Taylor building,
bumpers at the front of parking spaces behind The Gap to prevent cars from blocking the
walkway, maintenance of the decorative brickwork on the walkways to keep them
smooth and informed Starbucks' management of the requirement to keep the sidewalk
clear by the curb cut at the corner of the building. Commons officials have applied for
the permits necessary to renovate the public restroon s to reale them more accessible.
Additionally, when the Breather improves they plan to restripe parking lots to provide
handicapped parking spaces, including vary-accessible spaces, which comply with current
guidelines. They also will improve the slope of the curb cuts as they undertake other
improvements to the sidewalks The committee conmmended the Commons' officials for
the steps they have taken to date to improve access. on their part, the Mashpee
Commons officials promised to continue to work with the committee to insure the
Commons is easily accessible to all. Finally,we touched briefly on the VISITABILITY
concept as it might apply to the Mashpee Commons Chapter 40B project now in the early
stages of permitting. Bob Will provide them any information materials we may have for
their review and consideration.
Marilyn noted MoD will be conducting a tiro-day Community Access Monitor Training
session at the Duxbury Senior Center.April 11&12, Zoo 6. Applications are available for
any who wish to apply. Bob will check with MOD to see if any sessions are planned for
the Cape this year.
The Council on Aging is developing a data base of disabled and others requ rang
assistance in time of an emergency. Jim Dong has stated this is a tedious process and is
seeking ways to insure all those requiring assistance are identified in advance. Bob
checked with Deli Rami to see if it would be possible to use the annual town census as
one vehicle for acquiring the data. She indicated the census could be used for that
pose possibly by including a separate form with the census. We need to work with
Debi and the Council on Aging to develop the appropriate questions for eliciting the
essential infortnation.
The next meeting is set for April 13,200 6. An official of the Mashpee Chamber of
Commerce will be invited to attend.
Respectfully submitted,
Robert H. Wooldridge
Secretary
