i
Mr. Tom FerontitiConstruction Coordinator for Mashpee Commons Ltd. Partnership,met
J
with the committee at the invitation of Richard Stevens and Charlie Mai tangs. Mr.
Feronti emphasized Mashpee Commons management's commitment to insuring
maximum accessibility and pointed specifically to the updated signs for the handicapped
parkingspaces. Members of the committee raised a number of issues adversely
impacting accessibility. High on this list is the safety issue resulting from a lack of curb }
cuts permitting access to the sidewalk behind and beside the Ann Taylor building and
from the parking lot adjacent to the Cape Cod Community Medical Clinic. Mr. Feronti }
stated the majority of the foot traffic for Ann Taylor and other entrances along that
section of Steeple Street roaches from other parking areas and curb cuts from the
l ll
parking area behind Ann Taylor were not considered essential. When the safety
problems were raised he indicated a willingness to reassess the situation. He also tools
under advisement the other access issues previously raised in Bob Wooldridge's memo
on Mashpee Commons access, He indicated several of these problem areas are by the
original buildings 1n the Commons and predate the ADA Act. Mr. Feronti agreed to meet
with the Building Inspector and committee members at the Commons to observe first-
hand some of the access problems s disabled citizens encounter. All agreed it would be
best to wait until early Spring for this field trip.
r
The effort to have automatic atic doors installed at Town Hall and other Town-owned
{
buildings remains stalled over the question of funding. Chart ie agreed to check with
CORD and the Building and Grounds supervisor for cost data and possible alternative
sources of funding. The possible need for a specific item in the warrant will be addressed
at the February meeting.
ri
Torn Fudalla and Richard Stevens suggested the committee be represented at meetings of
the Plan Review Committee. This would help insure access 'issues are identified and
considered at a stage in the project when corrective action can be taken more easily. The
Flan Review Committee meets on Fridays at 10:00 AM. The committee agreed with the
benefits of being represented at these meetings and will discuss how hest to insure r
attendance.
Marilyn agreed to forward a memo requesting the Selectmen officially appoint Charlie
Maintanis an alternate member of the committee.
No progress has been made in identifying an individual to fill the vacant position on the
conralttee,
The next meeting will be held at 2:00 PM,February 10,2005 at Town Hall
Bob provided copies of the approved minutes of previous meetings to the Town Clerk.
w ni su pitted,,
o ert H. ooldridge
Secretary
