Comments from Town Manager's Office ...None. <br /> Mashpee Community TV Updates...Bill Nay said they are about to unveil the new studio that was put <br /> in at the High School. He expects there will be a lot of in-school programming done there. <br /> Dawn Tha er-Budget Discussion and U date <br /> Dawn provided a preliminary estimated draft FY-2019 MCAT Budget for the MCAT Board to review, as <br /> well as a report showing the current budget balance. Dawn explained that she did the same approach as <br /> last year...she took the average of the last 3 years and she looked at monthly costs. Dawn said she <br /> included $30,000 for miscellaneous expenses. At this point in time,there is no request for capital <br /> expenditures. <br /> Town Meeting is next May. The budget is to go on the Warrant for that meeting. The deadline to submit <br /> the Warrant is in February. Therefore, MCAT is to approve final budget at their next meeting. <br /> David DelVecchio–IT Update—Nothing at this time. <br /> Final Comments by Board Members or Public <br /> Wendy Williams asked whether Randy Hunt was to come to an MCAT meeting. Dan Riley said he did <br /> contact Randy Hunt's office. Randy Hunt looked at what had to be done by the legislature and now it is <br /> up to the municipalities to see what OpenCape can do. Dan said the Town is getting up to date on all of <br /> that. <br /> Lolita McCray suggested that maybe at the next MCAT meeting it would be beneficial to hear from <br /> David DelVecchio to explain how it fits in with our Town. David will do that. David said of course fiber <br /> is expensive. <br /> Angela Hurwitz commented that there is a lot of push by towns to have a"smart city" environment. <br /> Bill Nay said a lot of elders have to leave the Cape so the family can keep an eye on them but with the <br /> technology OpenCape is working on they could remain on Cape and the family could keep in touch with <br /> them easily. Angela said there are lots of ways to let people live independently. <br /> Lola said without education to the group you want to reach on Cape, you won't get them to get involved <br /> in this technology. Angela said so many don't know about OpenCape and that's why we're trying to get <br /> the message to the people. <br /> Bill Nay said using the train analogy...those towns where the train was available prospered; otherwise the <br /> town did not survive. <br /> Dan said way in the past we had party lines for the phone; so maybe shared technology is the way to start. <br /> Angela said GPON technology is very popular and it is a great development for the home. She said you <br /> still have a dedicated line.
