Conservation Commission Page 12. <br /> October 29, 1987 <br /> COY F30G EXPERIMENT: Ms Lanshauser stated on the Order of Condit- <br /> ions to rehab the cranberry bogs , a condition was noted that 'at any <br /> point where chemicals were added to the bogs, that the waters be held <br /> for 48 hours. What has been done, in addition to the three retention <br /> ponds approved , they have . added four more ponds into. the system by -cul-. <br /> vetting in golf course ponds-. They then had an experiment by closing <br /> the flow gates at the lover and most northerly ends to see how long <br /> the water could be held , which was 48 hours. The most southerly <br /> retention ponds did not fill- up. There was a leak in the flume at the <br /> southeasterly retention pond. In order to fix that , they have stronSl <br /> suggested that instead of using individual planks., they use one . board <br /> with a rubber gasket . A letter was hand delivered to Lisa tonight with <br /> their conclusion that given the October floss, they will be able- to <br /> hold 48 hours of water in the experiment. They suggest it be repeated <br /> during spring flows. <br /> Ms Hanscom stated she was at the site twice and cannot say whether it <br /> worked 10% a s she did not know what the flow was due to leafage, <br /> Ms Behr an stated the commission would like -to look at it when there <br /> .is a solid board. <br /> Ms LanShauser stated there is a mon torl.n . r*o ra as-part of the MEPA <br /> process and the commission will be Zetting the results of that for the <br /> next seven years. <br /> Mr. Rosenberg stated the question of how far the treated chemicals are <br /> going is most importa tw <br /> Ms Langhaser• stated the engineer ►eels that given the facts the ponds <br /> did not fill' all the way up and if t- er were wa ert i ght conditions, <br /> it , would have worked and they do not .want -t repeat this e erineat <br /> again until June. <br /> Ms Behrman stated it cannot be said it is reasonably successful when <br /> they are going to change the structure. <br /> Ms Hanscom stated the main reason for the experiment was to show it <br /> could hold the mater and it didn' t. She would like to see it done in <br /> November . <br /> 1r. Brophy cane forward and apologized for missing the hearing.
