Conservation Commission
Meeting of March 24, 1988
Page 6.
i r. Cameron stated it is in Zone -115 not in the Flood velocity Zone. At the
prior hearing he stated he would shod a three foot buffer strip of ground cover.
He has specified a shade tolerant species such as virginia creeper. It will be
planted 1-112' under the deck and 1--1121 outside the deck.
Ms Behrman suggested huckleberry or blueberry and stated there was no point in
planting underneath the deck.
Mr. Rosenberg asked how it is going to be closed off and was told the trellis
will be going all the way from house to house. Re the spacing on boards on
the deck, Mr. Cameron stated it would be minimum. He will revise the plans
to show all planting outside of the deck.
Mr. Rosenberg stated he is confused by the 3' path of bark mulch that seers to
go nowhere. Mr. Cameron stated this is a cleared area, all bark mulch, that
probably should not be labeled a path ; it is going to be just bark mulch. on
the original plan there was a stairway that this path would lead to. There is
n-o cutting of vegetation proposed for this project.
Ms Behrman suggested a 31 strip of low bush blueberries or huckleberries all
the way around the edge of the deck. Reprised plans were requested indicating
the drywell and permanent pump facility and the revisions discussed.
HEARING CLOSED PENDING REMISED PLANS, IF ACCEPTABLE.
b:45 - New Seabury corp for the uncovering, inspection and application of a
polyester resin lining to a boo gallon underground tank located near the ex-
isting boat launch ramp in the Marina Area, Daniels Island Road. dire Pagel ick
rid Jacky Drown presenting. [fir.Brown advised the lining will be polymer,, not
polyester. Fie stated the tank, servicing the marina facility,, is 20-25 years
old. It was tested successfully in 1986 and in 1987 it was inconclusive with
a thermal instability. Webb Engineering said it was tight but they would not
certify. They received a temporary permit from the Fire chief and discussed
the internal lining of the tank, which he was in favor of. Two other tests
were done and both were clean.
It is proposed to excavate the top of the tank; mechanically- for a few inches
and then by hard for the remainder. The spoils will be tested for contamination
and if so will be disposed of in Department of Transportation approved 55 gallon
drugs. If clear, their will lay the approximate 20 yards,, cut the tank open,, go
inside, sandblast the tank, inspect it to see if it meet -the necessary require-
ments to allow relining. J. D. Halberg & Assoc. will perform the work. If not,
it will be buttoned up and the ground restored to normal -and a Notice of Intent
will be filed to remove the tank. If it does , Ha1berg will proceed with the work
and guarantee no leakage for ten years . The final say whether to proceed rests
with the Eire Department.
Ms Deh rman asked who is inspecting the spoils and Mr. Brown stated us and you.
Ms Benrman suggested KV Associates and Mr. Drown stated they would use thea or
the Barnstable county Health.
Mr. Brown stated the procedure will take 2-3 days and there will be no gas avail-
able until completed.
Ms Behrman advised question was raised during an onsite as to whether regrading
back to the tank could be done. Mr. Brown agreed, when the shell is replaced
a " berm would be left around the tank.
